I have an eleven month old son, and I wanted to start a Christmas tradition with him. Do you have any that you and your children enjoy?

We did some of the usual things, like every year Mom got each kid a special ornament, or playing games Christmas Day afternoon, or we were allowed to open one present on Christmas Eve. But the one that we all looked forward to was the annual Tube Battle. With six kids in the family, and everyone giving a present to everyone else, we went through a LOT of wrapping paper. Some Christmas morning, while we were all eating our breakfasts and joking around, someone grabbed one of the leftover cardboard tubes piled next to the trash can and started poking someone else with it. That person grabbed one, and a duel started. That led to everyone taking up tubes and smacking each other. We all bashed, prodded, and parried until every tube was in shreds and every person was panting from laughing so hard (and making so many light saber sound effects). It was hilarious.

So every Christmas, we now have the annual fight, and the mayhem continues to grow. As we kids get married, our spouses participate, and the dogs too. We also save all our wrapping tubes throughout the year and bring them as back-up ammo; you never can have enough. People have belted extras around their waist or made quivers to hold them. I've even seen a brother "saw off" a tube and hide it in his sock to whip out against unsuspecting victims. Yeah, we're a bit "off," but nobody has more fun.

I think I'd wait a few more years before I started this tradition with your kids, lol.

I'm not a parent but my parents have a tradition in our family of putting candy in stockings. Every year, we put stockings on our door handles and they are STUFFED with toys and candy... my mom even got creative and found a store that had candy from other countries... British chocolate is my favorite! Last year, we went to the dollar store and found these HUGE stockings that were about the size of the door... and YES she did fill that thing with candy, Cd's, books, and other things! ;-) it's a fun thing to do... my brother and I used to sleep under the Christmas tree as well... the lights would just put us to sleep... ;-) we also open one of our gifts on Christmas eve... and we watch Christmas movies... and we watch "It's a Wonderful Life" on Christmas day... we also used to make clay ornaments for the tree and put them in the oven to solidify... Another thing we did was make LOTS of cookies... we would have all diffrent kinds of cookies all over the house... Hope this helps! ;-)

The links below will give additional ideas of how to do anything I just mentioned! ;-) GOOD LUCK!

This is a tradition i heard about here in Germany.
"Die Weihnachtsgurke" means "the christmas cucumber"

Americans say it's an old German tradition but nobody really heard of it here. This is what you do:
You hang up this cucumber looking ornament in your christmas tree. You let your family look for it from a little distance and woever finds it gets to open his or her present first. If you have 2 or more kids you hang up more cucumbers and they get to open their presents in order.
I think it sounds like fun.
Oh and i think it looks more like a pickle...

My sister and I started this with our boys (they are both 5 now) that every year they got a new blanket from Santa. Sometimes it is one that we bought at a craft show or a simple printed throw that we picked up with their favorite cartoon character on it. After they are asleep we cover them up with the blanket and they wake up with it on Christmas morning-"Santa" covered them up with their new blanket. I have all the blankets, some in better shape that others, but he loves them all the same. You can go to any craft store to get fleece prints and have someone you know (or you if you are handy with the sewing machine) stitch the edges so that they don't fringe up on you. It's a fun tradition that I tend to keep going on with and will implement with my b/f's son this Christmas and he is 10.

My daughter is only 22 months, but some traditions my husband and I share is that on Christmas Eve you can open one present. Christmas morning, my mom-in-law makes cinnamon rolls to help everyone get up. These aren't that unique but something we all look forward to.

We have cookie day at my parents. Ever since I was about...5, my mom makes a whole bunch of sugar cookies and 4 differant colors of icing. She would use cookie cutters in Christmas shapes (Christmas tree, Santa face, snowman, etc.). My brother, sister and I would sit around for hours, with the cookies, icing and all sorts of decortions (sprinkles, cinamon dots, etc.) My mom would set them around the house at christmas, bring them to work, family christmas parties. I am 23 years old and we still do it every year.

We rent a cabin in the mountains for Christmas & take our gifts. Its great cause we usally see snow where as if we was at home we would not. We like to also make hot chocolate & sit by the fireplace & tell the birth of Jesus.

A new Christmas ornament each year that we pick out. It does not have to be expensive just something that we all like. We write the year on it if it is not there and when my kids get married they get their ornaments to put on their own trees.
