Ok heres the difference between all wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. All wheel drive all four wheels are always ingaged and when you turn since the wheels in the opposite direction of your turn have farther to go. It will let the outside wheels spin freely. and 4 wheel drive your rear wheels just run the vehicle if its not engaged in 4 wheel lock, buy when you turn you wheels on the opposite side of the turn dont turn freely they move the same amount as the ones on the inside of the turn. Which on paved roads causes a roll over hazard. 4 wheel drive is only for off road or bad weather conditions on non paved surfaces. While all wheel drive is meant for all conditions on or off road. Personally i wouldnt go with a sportege I just dont trust anything other than a brand new korean car. I would go with a subaru or a audi if you decide with all wheel drive. they make great all wheel drive systems. WIth 4 wheel drive Id go with a nissan personally. But stay away from late model Chevy S10 Blazers and Gmc JImmies they are worthless.

All wheel drive is the same thing as 4x4 4x4 literally means 4 wheels x 4 drive wheels (aka, all wheel drive) 4x2 would mean 4 wheels x 2 drive wheels Semi trucks are 6x4, 6 wheels x 4 drive wheels.

4x4 usually referrers to trucks while All Wheel Drive is for smaller calls. If you plan on driving just on paved roads AWD is the best. 4x4 is generally for off roading or dirt roads. They say AWD can work in snow but I see them with chains when I visit the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
My 4x4 truck does not need them and I’m just a button away from being in 4x4 modes. Also since I have high and low settings I can use these for towing. I put Misty, my trucks name, in 4x4 low and drop her down to 1st gear and pulled a dead tree stump out of my neighbor’s yard. His AWD Subaru can’t do that.

Generally 4X4 can be turned on and off by you all wheel drive is on all the time. If you are into 4wheelin then get a 4X4 if not all wheel drive is good

a 4x4 is much better reason 1 , you can shift from 2 to 4 wheel amytime you wish ,however it is a pain in the -------. but better on the gas millage , all wheel drive is a bragg on the fuel bill it is just sucking down the gass .when you shift out of 4 wheel you have less drag and the motor works much less to get to speed as well as staying at speed , i know ive had both . i love 4x4 i got 3 of them my gass bill is very low .

A 4x4 you can chose to put it in 4 wheel drive or keep it in 2 wheel drive, with an all wheel drive its always in 4 wheel drive, and sometimes you don't get as good gas mileage!

Yes, Its always better to have 4x4 then all time 4x4, as you have transmision in your hand. You are also saving fuel in this case and can get power any time you want. You may go for any model.

they are the same thing. in most 4x4 trucks you can get part time four wheel drive which means you manually put the vehicle in four wheel or two wheel when you need it. in all wheel drive you are using all four wheels pulling all the time.
