Know that as time passes by the pain will lesson. You always feel the void and nothing will fill its place but the pain is lessened with time. Allow grief to be. Allow memories to flow. Remembering can hurt but also help you heal. Talking about your parent will hurt also but will help you to keep their memory vivid. Don,t fear your emotions but know that they are normal. Keep yourself busy because when its somethings that's hurting you too much thinking time can be harmful. Remember that you are not alone in this emotion.

My mother died when I was 4 years old. So being raised by my dad was hard. I really couldn't talk to him about girl stuff and it always felt weird asking him about different things. When I would go to the store I would see all these girls with there mothers shopping and all and always thought how come I could never of had that chance. I still do at times and I'm 24 now. It has always been hard but you do get through life,

Assuming the parent has passed, you will be in a grieving period which only time will heal. This may take days or weeks. You may have several good cries - do it.(just don't throw anything)
When all the dust settles, pick the best memories - pictures, etc, to remember them. And then laugh, because they were YOUR parent, and YOU were their lucky child. And yes, you can laugh until you cry.

both of mine are gone. I remember the time Mom cooked.........
