it's not that i want joseph to be in the background making something out of wood, but it's just the only time i've seen joseph not portrayed as a shepherd is when it's 3 glass figurines of Jesus, joseph, mary.

Hi there.

With all due respect, I think that making the nativity scene correct is really the least of the pope's priorities. Rather, he should disband the unscriptual priesthood, Jesuit, nun & monkish orders, publicly renounce and apologise for the roman catholic position on sacramental grace, the mediatrix role of "Mary", baptismal regeneration, transubstantiation, the mass, worship of idols, etc. Then finally, he should resign from the unbiblical papal office of "vicar of Christ", publicly acknowledging that the office belongs to someone else (John 16:7 - 15).

That would be far more satisfactory in my view.

May God bless you.

Well Your right but the problem is this... The passion plays during Christmas have been done since the middle ages. and if you get the catholics to change it .. then Protestants might not.. I think that this is a matter of preference... as to how the makers of the figures want him to look. Sometimes these figures are crafted after figures made hundreds of years ago. and its the way the people want to remember the nativity set.... but just because the pope says its so .. you still have to contend with the protestants .. Joseph does have a few poses ... But are you sure that the Shepard isn't a metaphor.. like Jesus being a fisherman of men ..joseph is the helper of god's flock ....being that he helped mary in her quest of bearing jesus..... metaphorically it makes sense .. but you probably know more about this than me

Joseph in actual fact, was a master tradesman, born into a high class family. It's not only Joseph who is portrayed wrongly; the whole nativity scene is misconstrued.

lol - that's a good one. I would also ask why angels are portrayed as cutsey little fluffy naked babies with wings?? Did you ever notice how the first thing out of an angel's mouth in every appearance was "fear not!" Do you really think they would've had to say that if they were just naked flying babies??

What does the pope have to do with merchandising?? who's the pope??
