Is your hair previously colored or is it natural? If it's natural you probably just need to do a deep cleansing shampoo to take off any buildup which can prevent color from sticking. And try leaving it on for a little longer.
If your hair was already colored it could be because there is already color it in, you're trying to cover over another chemical and it's just not adhering, the shaft of your hair may have too much color and just so you know, red is very hard to cover. I've had my hair dyed dark brown/black about 5 times and before that was a medium-dark auburn...I still see red in it.

Even though they can be expensive. You should go to a salon the first time. Let them do it the right way and then you can do the touch ups yourself after that initial time. Or just get a consultation where they can show you the right colors to use. You may need to strip or bleach your hair and then apply a brown color to it.

You need to bleach/strip your hair 1st. This is a common problem with ppl that have dark toned hair.
If you cannot find a kit with a bleach in it, go to your local hair salon. Yes they are more expensive but in the end they do a better job than one you could do at home, and they will make sure the color sticks. Afterall, what are you paying them for?

You might want to get your hair done professionaly. Because your hair is of a dark color your stylist might have to add bleach first to take off some of the pigment. I would have to advise you not to try bleaching at home you might end up with an undisireable hair color. Best of luck to you!

your not keepin the color in long enough. some hair that grabs color better, in which case they dont need it in as long, yours prolly donsn't so continue trying strand tests. i personally like expresso brown. be careful going dark though. going darker is adding color to your hair so if its not dark enough u can also go darker easily, but if u go to dark then u have to remove it which is bad for your hair. but theres no such thing as undiable hair, except in cases where ppl overbleach the hair so frequently that it wont hold color.
just leave it in for longer
hope this helps

Your hair will not get lighter, unless you use bleach on it. That said, you need to go to a professional because even the best home color kit products will not help you.

what brand did you use?? clairol? l'oreal? well- it also depends what color you want to have new. FI you go darker you shuold be fine but going lighter is always harder when you have dark hair. Go to a salon and if it doesn't work- get your money back!

I like to use the tint from "Garnier". They seem to work for me. Plus they don't damage your hair cuz they use fruit or flower oil in the dye. Try it out.

Red is a difficult color to color, you may have to seek a professional and have it striped then colored.
