It may sound like a stupid question, but I've never had Sloe Gin so was wondering how it differs.
Thanks :)

I dont like Gin but I love sloe Gin. It has an unusual sweet taste, like a liqueur. It is quite strong and makes a nice long drink mixed with tonic. I make it every year by half filling an empty bottle with sloe berries that I have cleaned and pricked all over with a pin. Add ~ 6 tblspns of sugar and top with Gin. Keep in a cool dark place, shaking gently twice a week. Should be ready for Christmas. Strain before drinking - Mmmmmm !

No it's not a stupid question It tastes more fruity rather than flowery.and really pleasant at least the home made sloe gin is.
If you want to make some, find a jar or something with a wide opening. Pick a lot of sloes "depends on the size of the jar you intend to fill"use a Sharp fork and pierce the sloes |"this will allow the juice to come out into the gin"fill the jar but not quit to the neck with the sloes then fill with good quality gin, Leave for at least 3months to get the full flavour of the fruit.Drink and be merryPS(You will have to sweeten to suit your own taste buds)

My God! I could hardly believe how all the Answerers before me did not include that Sloe Gin is not a gin at all! It is just the American name for sloe berry liqueur or [flavored]brandy (as the two terms are defined by US alcohol law) just like apricot liqueur and brandy, blackberry liqueur and brandy, etc, etc.

No, definitely not. Sloe gin is incredbily sweet in comparison, although it's still drunk with tonic. I'd not recommend it if you're a gin fan.

No, it is delicious and it is red and it makes a kind of creamy foamy drink when it is mixed. Gin is made from Sloe Berries.

You wouldn't even think it was a gin when you're drinking it. Its really easy to drink straight. It is slightly syrupy and very warming, in the same way as apricot brandy or whisky liquer. Or mix it with some tonic water or lemodade for a slightly sweet and delicious long drink. I'd definitlely reccommend it, its lovely!

Mmmm slow gin. More expensive in bars than normal gin. It's fruity and purple in colour - slightly more syrupy to pour and tastes completely different. Try it with lemonade, sip and enjoy. Don't drink too much as it's easy to do it tastes so nice..... mmmmm
