I have just moved from one state to other. I have been paying child support for the last 4 years and have always been on top of it. Now I am living in other state, and the area I live in is very cheap. I went from making 28,000 a year to 19,000 a year. My question is now who do I talk to about adjusting the payments? Do I contact the child support office in the state that I now live in? or the state that my son is in? Its very hard to understand who and how to start this..

Thanks

You contact the state department that issued the child support payments to begin with.

You are suppose to contact the child support office where the child support was filed. You can only change the child support every 3 years so, it sounds like you may have to go through the courts. They have a new law now where the mother's income is considered as well as the father. It is a long process. My hubby has to do the child support thing and we were told that we had to get a lawyer in order to get the order changed before 3 years. It's good to know that there are fathers out there on top of their child support. Don't get discouraged. Just know that there are ways. Most of the time the child support office is not going to help you. Hope this helps.
