I think that my name is somewhat personal...because it's my name. It identifies me, and I have been asked what my name is. I often get comments on it too as it isn't a very common one here.

I've been asked personal questions (about a girlfriend, where I've lived before, etc.) If it bothers you that much though, the potential employer can get into a lot of trouble because it could be a form of "discrimination" when considering your candidacy for the position. Unless it's something that relates directly to the position.
I am a really open person so I don't care, but some people are very easily offended and will sue the first chance they get.

The thing with interviews is that it is supposed to be just that - an exchange of views. But it never is, is it? The person doing th interview thinks they can ask whatever invasive quiestions they like, as if you are so desperate for the job that they can get away with it.
They have no right - unless it has a bearing on the position you are applying for (Like working with kids, for example) - to ask personal or invasive questions.
If they ask who do you live with, then by all means tell them if you want to, but add a comment or question of your own.
For example ' I live with my girlfriend. Does that have a relavance to my application as a traffic warden?', or similar. YUou know what I mean.
Good luck with the job hunting.

That's very tacky and is actually against HIPPA regulations. HIPPA is the new privacy policies passed by the government 2 years ago (April 2002 I think). I would definately make this known to the person who interviewed you and/or stay away from that company because they are asking you things that are not at all related to why you are there. Good luck!

When I was first married they used to ask me when i was thinking of having children, then when i had my first child and went back to work, they asked about my support network as they assumed that i would take a lot of time off if child was sick, then when child was a bit older i kept getting asked when i was going to have my next child. I bet they wouldnt have asked a man those sort of questions.

I was asked when I'm planning on having children once. I suppose they wouldn't have offered me the job had I said any time soon. I knew they weren't allowed to ask me this at the time but was taken off gard.

I haven't been asked that question. But they might want to know if you live with a partner who would be upset if you were away on long business trips for example.

One interviewer asked me two weird questions...first was: Do I have any visable tattoos? The second was: How many ciggerettes do you smoke per day? Once he asked that I was ready to walk out of that place!!!

Yeah, I once had a guy ask why I dyed my hair! It was a job at a law firm, so I don't know why it was even an issue. I was really put off by that.

They seem to think since ur there for a job from them they're entitled to ask anything they want. I was told by an interviewer one time, "You look VERY nice".........He made it like he was just saying I looked nice, but we both knew what he meant.
