I have been taking kolonopin since May of 2000, it is given to seizure patients and also people who have Meniere's Disease (me). I take 1 1/2 mg. and was told that was the highest dose anyone can take and it is the only drug I've found that helps me sleep because with Meniere's your head is constantly ringing, roaring, all kinds of noises (had surgery on both ears, helped some). I think your sister and her husband were very depressed and felt death was their only way out. I feel depressed but would never consider killing myself and I don't think the kolonopin had any effects on their decision.

It is a fairly powerful sedative, anti-anxiety medication. Sometimes it is prescribed for panic attacks. It's nothing to mess with -- I have heard some people take it to come down from meth. Side effects due to a rapid decrease in dose or abrupt withdrawal from Klonopin may include:
Abdominal and muscle cramps, behavior disorders, convulsions, depressed feeling, hallucinations, restlessness, sleeping difficulties, tremors. And I am sorry for your tragic loss.

I found this on a drug website.
Klonopin side effects
Side effects due to a rapid decrease in dose or abrupt withdrawal from Klonopin may include:
Abdominal and muscle cramps, behavior disorders, convulsions, depressed feeling, hallucinations, restlessness, sleeping difficulties, tremors,
Klonopin can also cause aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, excitability, hostility, irritability, nervousness, nightmares, sleep disturbances, and vivid dreams.
It's quite possible the drug caused him to do this. Sorry for your loss.

Klonopin is an anti-seizure medication that's used for anxiety and panic. It's in the same category as Xanax. I doubt that it caused that tragedy. It's imperative not to drink alcohol on these medications. Perhaps he had mental problems that went undiagnosed. Some doctor had to be prescribing the klonopin. My condolences on your loss.

It used mainly for sleep. I think it is in the class of a benzodiazepine. Which is mainly for calming effects.
