is your extract old? That might be the problem..buy some new extract, you could even buy the imitation that has a lighter flavor. You will miss the flavor if you bake without it at all. maybe you could use a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon... or you could use almond extract instead for most recipes.

Wow, really? I always double or triple the amount I put in cuz I can never taste it! And I use real vanilla extract, not imitation. Interesting.

Anyhoo... you could certainly leave it out. You might try a different flavor of extract, or maybe replace it with water so you still have the same amt of liquids. That's probably not important unless it's a really picky recipe... a tsp of liquid shouldn't make much difference in most things.

Just don't use the vanilla or use some other sort of flavoring. I like to use Almond extract. I have learned that a wee bit of Mexican vanilla goes a long way.

Since I am a vanilla freak you apparently are not so you are probably oversensitive to vanilla. Most people however like an intense vanilla flavor like me so unless you are just making it just for yourself it probably won't be that good to most folks who like a good vanilla flavoring.

No it's not necessary. Have you tried using half the amount? I personally add more than it calls for because I like the flavor.

You may just be sesitive to the taste. Ask others that are eating it too. I bet you are the only one that notices it. You can leave it out, but it won't taste right to everyone else.

I suggest you use a different flavor extract that appeals to you, or leave it out all together.
