I doubt it I heard such nonsense when missiles came along. These same so called prognosticators all said the day of dogfighting and the gun were over missiles would do it all. No one has shown that a drone is capable in a dog fight or can handle changes in the tactical situation such as a unknown gun position opens up on the drone. What happens will the drone continue on or will it adapt to the new threat? this very short sighted thinking led to several types of fighters being designed without a gun and later had to have them redesigned with the gun. The F-4 phantom being the most famous of them. These same yahoo's also said that with the invention of the atomic bomb there would be no conventional wars yet that seems be the only kind we have. So don't put much stock in that bull it's just wishful thinking. Soon some whiz kid will come up with a way to jam the command signals to the drone and it will be useless.

Perhaps, but it's unlikely. My 44 years has taught me that people have been expecting The Jetsons to come true a lot faster than it has. I'd be surprised if the military would be happy to give up pilots and trust all to computers inside the next 20 years.

But I wouldn't want to be flying an F-22 when a hostile, stealthy, mach 3 drone with a 30g manoeuvre capability and a load of ASRAAM and AMRAAM (or their replacements) turned up in my air space.

But then flying fighters is about making your presence felt rather than shooting at people for 99.999% of the time and for that a plane with a pilot is better than a drine.

Maybe not. Watch the film called Stealth, where a UCAV (a unmanned fighter) takes the world into its own hands. Now, we wouldent war to become a increasingly expensive video game, would we?
