My special congratulations to you", because most of the people who believe in God are doing blind belief - he is a Christian, because his father is a Christian; he is a Hindu, because his father is a Hindu; the majority of the people in the world are blindly following the religion of their fathers. An atheist, on the other hand, even though he may belong to a religious family, uses his intellect to deny the existence of God; what ever concept or qualities of God he may have learnt in his religion may not seem to be logical to him.

mythological figure created by people to avoid facing facts

You are so right. I have been thinking lately why people are such dedicated followers of tradition. I suppose it's because the holidays are coming up. Most people just follow the religion their parents did. Even if they follow the one true God, they may be lost because they don't know why they believe what they believe. People like that are flabbergasted when challenged with a question like yours. Actually I encourage and applaud you for posting your question. They are many definitions for who/what God is. They key to such an answer is a desire for truth. Fact is based on our five senses and therfore limiting. Truth takes into account EVERYTHING. Here's one of my definitions. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." (Bible-God's word transcirbed by man, book of John, 1st chapter)
Darkness just didn't get it. God was everywhere, but darkness just didn't want anything to do with Him, except to defeat the Lord. God has always been, He is everywhere, all powerful, and all knowing. He made all we see and do not see. God is love. He will never stop loving us all. Because of such love, Jesus died and paid the price for all sin. All we need to do is crave God enough to look for him and we will find everlasting life that the great provider has set aside for us. I guess my ultimate defintion of God is my provider. I could never say all he is but I gave it a good try don't you think?

1/ Atheists can come from atheistic families.
2/ Atheists do believe in a divine creator, their religion was based on the concept that one should live their lives according to what is best for the future prosperity of the following generations, not to act in a way that may, or may not, get you some reward after death.
3/ Terms such as Atheist, Cathar, and Agnostic have been abused by the Christian faith since the Middle Ages, and are nowadays bandied about with no reflection on the fact that they were religions, instead being treated as though they represent a lack of religion. They represent a different religion to the predominant one in Europe, Christianity.

I don't think I belong to a religious family... but anyways, it is not our place to define god. If you ask me whether I believe in god (I'm an atheist by the way) I would tell you to define it. If you tell me that it is the thing that created the universe, I would say, surely I believe that something created the universe. I call it the Big Bang, you may call it god. If you tell me that god is an all intelligent being that created man on earth and sent his son to save our sins, I would say I don't believe that.

See, as an atheist, I reject the notions of an intelligent creator found in the bible. There may be in fact, a god, but he isn't the god that people read about in the bible because it is illogical.

I just think god is an expression of the need to believe there is an explanation for the great mysteries of life. People need a soothing answer to such questions as the meaning of life, what happens after life, what happened before, where are those who died, etc. And God provides them with an answer. The problem is that this answer entirely lacks evidential value, so I just cannot take it.

God is the end result of a failed search for truth by a very shallow mind, provided that any search was made at all instead of swallowing the pile of delusional bilge that was spoon fed to you as a child. God is the reduction of all that is illogical to the simplest possible non-answer. God is the great because that never was.

You totally lost me on the details of your question, so I will just answer the main question.

To me, god is a vehicle by which people procreate a faith and/or spiritual belief system. A god serves as the lightning rod for these beliefs and fosters a growth and enlightenment among those who chose to believe in it.

How about I go with a simple answer to this one.

God- the object of worship.

There have been strong gods and weak gods and gods that exclude all other gods and gods that have other god friends. But once he loses his followers, even an omnipotent god becomes just an all-powerful being.

A deity (god or goddess) is a supernatural entity--which can be either omnipotent and omniscient (YHWH) or having complete control over one or several aspects of the world (Athena)--and which is worshipped and revered by its believers. It usually has anthropomorphic qualities, and is almost always seen as immortal.
