Not a substitute, there could be no substitute for your own child, but certainly pets can help to fill a gap in people's lives sometimes. It's important for the pet's own welfare that it is treated as the creature it is though, with consideration for its own nature and needs, not "used" to meet the needs, appropriate or otherwise, of a person. Far too many pets are not treated well in their own terms.

but overpopulation is in both species(cat and human). However, I think cats cost less money, use up less space. The downside is they die before the human owning them could. The plus to having a kid is they can pass on the family name(if that's an issue in your family), they give you grandchilden(depending on the child and the outlook of yourself). So, yes, a cat can be a substitute but at the same time, no it cannot. Although I have many friends who can't have kids that beg to differ. Oh, and the whole maternal thing, you can't imitate that with a cat(unless you plan on stuffing a cat up your shirt for a bit, which i think might be demmed inhumane).

Until I have my own children, my animals will have to do. I've done countless hours of babysitting and cared for too many cats throughout my life to remember exact numbers, but I've been saying this for a long time: having cats is like having kids. They are spoiled and throw temper tantrums. They fight and make messes and expect you to clean up after them. They want the world handed to them on a silver platter. But when THEY shower YOU with unconditional love and acceptance it is the most rewarding experience in the world and you wouldn't give them up for all the money in the world.

I had babycats when I was too sick to have children., and seaturtles - also babies
later I had 2 children, they seemed so big -but I could never forget my very small babies - so sweet, so sweet
you know, I guess it depends on how much you dare to love them and see humans in them

the worst is that they dont live long
thats what I love most in my children
they will outlive me
and I buried so many little animals, that I couldnt have them no more

I do think owning dogs or cats can be just as rewarding and as much fun! But no, an animal is not, nor should be a child substitute.

That is just wrong on all levels. If you raise cats then they multiply faster than humans, that is why they spay and neuter pets nowadays. If you do not want a child then why do you want a substitute. If you have a life partner, then love that person.

I love my cats but I love my kids too. I guess for some people who can't have or don't want kids, it's a good substitution.

Cats advance, yet they're going to continually be there for you. in many very own reports, teenagers won't. i admire my toddlers; they make me experience captivating, chuffed, useful, and knowledgable that my existence has a purpose all interior the comparable time, at a similar time as teenagers in simple terms attain traumatic me in the event that they are under the age of 12. in many cases up till the age of 18 to twenty. I have no kids, but 2 cats, but don't really believe they are "substitutues" for children. Yes, they are loyal, cuddly little animal friends, but that's it. Nothing deeper.
