I was wondering if cellphones can receive collect calls from jail? My house phone can't receive any collect calls. Is there any way that the person in jail can call my house without being a collect call?

Sorry, cell phones can not receive a collect call under any circumstances. I learned that one the hard way when a friend of mine needed help and tried to call me collect.

I called my service provider and asked if there was some sort of option I could change or if I could even put a deposit down so that someone could call me collect - no dice.

I believe that jails everywhere are the same, and they can only make collect calls. This is to help them keep a record of the calls the prisoners make and so that they can't bother people who don't want to hear from them. It may even be a law - I'm not sure.

actually it depends on the jail. They are all different. I know that most of them don't allow calls to cell phones at all and that all the calls are "collect calls" however one of the places my husband was locked up allowed us to prepay for the calls, you just had the call the company the jail had picked to deal with all their phone calls and have them set up the account. When I did that they set up 2 accounts for me one for the land line and one for the cell phone. And then once I had no more money in the account he couldn't call me anymore until i made another payment. However most of the places don't allow that.

Normally land lines have a limit of calls ( like $100 or $300) you can receive before the put a block on the line. Normally once you reach that limit you will have to set up an account and deal with the other company directly and not your phone company.

It is confusing because every jail/prison is different and deal with different companies. Just call the jail and ask them what company they deal with and ask them for the phone number. Normally they will be helpful.

No, You will have to call the different phones companies and ask if they send collect calls. Or call the prison or jail and ask them what phone company ? My neice was in the same situation and had to change phone companies.

THERE IS NOT WAY AT ALL. THERE IS A BLOCK ON YOUR PHONE THAT'S WHY HE CANT CALL YOU COLLECT AT HOME. YOU NEED TO CALL THE PHONE COMPANY AND TELL THEM YOU WANT THAT BLOCK OFF AND YOU WANT TO GET COLLECT CALLS ON YOUR HOUSE PHONE.

Nope. It needs to be a landline (home) phone. Cell phones are not aloud to accept collect calls.

Yes but you have to keep your phone in a good serviced area and turn your Wfi off because it won't go through if it is on Wifi sometimes. It will give you voicemail but no missed call.

while there are 100's of types and companies, I don't know of any that accept collect calls. You need to check with your home phone and get it where it can accept them

The only other way I know of is if you get him a prepaid calling card. Then he can call any phone. Good Luck!
