I've been having trouble sleeping. When I lie on my back, I get strange pain in my upper chest and neck area. It feels sort of like a pressure or tightness coming from inside that makes it hard to breathe. Sometimes it's relieved by taking pepto bismal. Could this be acid reflux, and if so, what will happen if I don't get it treated?

My symptoms included trouble swallowing and a tightness in my chest. This does sound like GERD, or acid reflux. See a doctor because there are many good medications available, like nexium or protonix. You need to get this checked out because it can lead to permanent damage to your esophagus.

I took prilosec OTC and it made it worse. Go see your doctor, they can prescribe some good medicines. I love prevacid, works great. If you don't treat it, it could turn into an ulcer and overtime possibly become cancer. I've had acid reflux since I was 10, don't mess around with it.

Not treated could damage the esophagus. I use Prilosec OTC. One pill a day, no heartburn. It really works and you don't need a perscription. Try it.
