Some people are just afraid of the comittment of color. Neutrals don't have to be white or beige. Here is what I would do: Go shopping for throw pillows with hubby. When he picks something out that has nice colors that you like, tell him that you like it and that decorators use this trick to pick out complimentary paint colors. Have him pick out a color that would be nice on the walls from the throw pillow. Have him pick out a trim that would be the secondary color. The YOU pick out the POP color that you want (that would be your accessories). At any rate, he would feel more relaxed picking out "his" colors if he can see what they will all look like together. Then you can also always add some more black or white to your accessories (painted furniture or fabrics). It's a beautiful thing when a woman guides her man in making "his" decisions on his own. OH..then you have to pat him on the back about his choices. Use your womanly wiles, honey! Godblessya.

My husband was afraid of color too. He couldn't picture what it would look like, and was happy to leave everything builder-beige. He left the painting decisions up to me, and now really likes the colors we have in the house. I would suggest that you go to a few new-home communities, and walk through their furnished models. Show your husband that color on the walls actually looks good. (just make sure the model homes you look at are actually painted the way you want - usually the higher end communities have the better decorated models.) Once he sees colored walls, he'll probably be more agreeable!

My husband and I recently remodeled our kitchen. We painted all the walls a light cream color. Our table is set into a smaller area of our new eat-in kitchen and I wanted to draw some attention to it. My husband wasn't sure how it would look to paint just one wall so while he was at work I did it.... without talking to him first. He came home, looked at it, went into the bedroom. During dinner he finally said, "I like it." Some people just can't imagine what a finished product will look like. Try just painting an accent wall in a room and see what he says. Good luck.

HaHa good luck with that. My husband also wanted ALL white walls. I simply went out and got a color for one of our rooms, he helped me paint it, even when he didn't want to, and turns out, he liked it. So we were able to paint the house. Or try suggesting light colors.

At most paint stores they now have booklets with design ideas using colour combinations to show people how great certain colours look together. Pick up a bunch of them and ask your husband to go through them with you. When he sees the rooms looking beautiful with all the furniture and accessories already in place, I bet he'll see something he likes. Tell him you need to agree on one color scheme for one room and take it from there. My guess is that he'll want to do the whole house.

Show him magazine clippings + pictures of gorgeous houses with painted walls, and see whether that changes his opinion. If not, you could negotiate on maybe having just a few rooms with painted or white walls, and buy paintings to brighten up the white rooms.

I'm a builder and I can tell you that most straight men are stubborn and really have no taste when it comes to home interiors. On the other hand my female customers always have good taste and their men seem to always admit they were wrong about the lady's color selections. So I suggest you find a way to open his eyes and his mind to your taste. Maybe paint a room when he is at work. I know that is risky but it might be worth a try.

First mistake is how do I convince my huband, you dont. You just go lowes pick out the paint you like and start painting. Men need to leave the decor up to the woman. Good luck

White walls are NEVER out! Get some colorful wall hangings and pictures. In the long run they are easier to change than repainting walls.
