I am moving from USA to AUS and will be taking my Great Dane with me. A typical dane, she suffers from anxiety and I fear flying in the cargo area may be too much for her. Is there a way to qualify her as "special needs?" Thanks for your input, I'm really worried about this!

Traveling with a pet
We accept small, domesticated pets (cats, dogs and birds) that will fit comfortably in an approved carrier under the seat. This would mean no larger than 8.5" high X 17" long X 12" wide. The weight of the pet plus carrier cannot exceed 40 pounds or roughly 18 kilos.

Airfare for a pet is $65 one-way.
large dogs are not accepted in cabin , for all their needs would be uncomfortable for passengers ,therefore ,no ,you may not take your large dog on planes ;
consult your vet before leaving , make sure he has all his shots and is up to date on his vaccinations before leaving .
even a seeing dog of large size is not allowed to be with you ,for the crew will provide you with help .........

You can only take animals in the cabin if they fit in a cage under the seat in front of you or if they are seeing eye dog, etc. I would suggest talking to your vet about getting anti-anxiety meds or sedatives for your dog, especially since it is such a long flight! I know there are airlines especially designed for pet owners and their pets, but I don't think they fly internationally.

only if it is registered as an aid dog, like guide dog for blind or for disabled,or rescue dog. sorry. the airport staff that deal with animals are trained.they're not just ground crew, no disrespect to them.
