I've seen pictures on myspace where theres a picture of a person and their photo has a reflection in the water and it moves in ripples... how do i do that?

I would imagine it's a filter add-on that they use in photoshop.
there are tons of sites for PS plug-ins. you need to search them out and I bet you could find it.
P.S. - if you do could you share it?

There are various sites online for Myspace that allow you to upload a picture and it will give various types of manipulation. however, if you want to do it yourself..

(this assumes your image editor and animation maker are different programs)

Open photo in image editor
Adjust canvas size to be twice as tall (same width)
Duplicate background layer
flip duplicated layer horizontally
apply a slight ripple effect
save image

repeate above steps with different variables for ripple effect (do this say 7 - 8 times)

open animation program
create new frame
insert first picture you saved

create 2nd frame
insert second picture you saved

create 3rd frame
insert third picture you saved

you get the idea now

set the frame display time to 0 secs to create a continuous looking flow.

save file as gif

This will create a very rudementary look - but if the variables for the ripple are all continuous, it should be a very smooth look.
