There are many differing opinions on this matter. If you are looking to speed up your metabolism to lose weight then here's what I've heard or read.

Drinking water keeps your metabolism going (not sure about speeding it up) because it requires energy to assimilate it into your system. It would also stand to reason that's why ice cold water requires more energy because the body can only metabolise food at 37 degrees C - optimum operating temperature for enzymes and other processes.

Also most dieters don't consume food that often - 1 meal and 2 shakes/snacks etc. In between, your metabolism may be dormant if you're not active.

Like the previous answerers, water flushes out toxins which only serve to increase tissues, hold more water and increase weight.

So I believe that there is validity in sipping (not gulping) 2 litres of water throughout the day - it does plenty good and if you lose weight (speed up your metabolism) then it's a bonus. But then remember, you also need to exercise too to benefit from all of the above!

Hi, drinking water does not speed up your metabolism, it does however aid with weight loss in the sense that when you first feel those hunger pangs if you drink a pint of water instead of eating and then wait half hour you will be able to tell whether you really were hungry or just - which is quite often the case dehydrated which gives of the same hungry sensation. If you are looking for a way to speed up your metabolism green tea is brilliant, swop it for your first cup of tea in the morning and your metabolism will kick in quicker - you can drink upto three cups per day at sensible intervals to keep metabolism regulated. Also fresh grapefruit for breakfast or instead of a desert is another great way of kicking in your metabolism. hope this helps.

No! It is controlled by hormones released by the thyroid gland.
If you eat healthily and do moderate exercise that might speed it up
As metabolism controls How fast food is turned into energy If you exercise it needs more energy and takes it from fat reserves. It also helps to boost the release of the hormones needed.

No. But if you drink plenty of water, you will, however, retain less water which will definitely help you lose a few pounds.
