Quote Ratzinger Pope Benedict speaking about Jesus:
"If we may borrow the language of the theory of evolution, it is the greatest 'mutation,' absolutely the most crucial leap into a totally new dimension that there has ever been in the long history of life and its development.

Specifically he is referring to the resurrection here, this seems like the resurrection redefined by the guy at the top of the Catholic hierarchy.

Just another example of the Church attempting to get with the times, using scientific language to explain supernatural occurrences that never happened.....

Stupid Nazi.

Mutation means change. It is in quotes because he did not mean it to be taken literally. The Pope is calling the resurrection the greatest change in the history of Man. The Catholic church has a strong scientific tradition, and has accepted evolution and the Big Bang for a long time. John Paul II issued an edict to astronomers that anything before Planck time (the limits of inference on the Big Bang) belongs to God alone. The Catholic Doctine of Creationism is simple: God created the Universe.

For those interested, the full homily from the Easter Vigil is cited.

Hello, Ignorance and poor education in 20th century history I'm afraid. The National Socialist Worker's Party operated just like any other political party from then until today. You had to apply, fill in applications, pay membership dues just like you do to join the Conservative, Liberal, Republican, Democrats or Labour parties in the west. In addition you had to prove you had a clean racial record going back at least 3 generations. Hitler Youth membership was made compulsory for youths over 17 in 1939, and for all over the age of 10 in 1941. By 1939, Hitler Youth membership comprised 90 percent of the country’s youth. Context....

There is a lot I'ld strongly disagree with Mr Ratzinger on, and that quote as it is given would be one of those things. However the full article (see source) does look a bit better, although there are a few more things in there that could have probably could have been phrased better.

No, it is not a turn around for the catholic church. Their M O is staying popular with the masses. Unfortunately this pope as well as the last one (and the rest of them) have long since regarded the Scripture as fallible. This is one of the major reasons that most Christians see Catholicism as a cult. They believe that the pope is infallible but God's Word is not.

"Evolution disproves the Bible?"
Jesus was not a "mutation".He is the living son of God.
The Book of Genesis tells us that everything was created by God—nothing "evolved." Every creature was given the ability to reproduce after its own kind as is stated ten times in Genesis. Dogs do not produce cats. Neither do cats and dogs have a common ancestry. Dogs began as dogs and are still dogs. They vary in species from Chihuahuas to Saint Bernards, but you will not find a "dat" or a "cog" (part cat/dog) throughout God’s creation. Frogs don’t reproduce oysters, cows don’t have lambs, and pregnant pigs don’t give birth to rabbits. God made monkeys as monkeys, and man as man.

Each creature brings forth after its own kind. That’s no theory; that’s a fact. Why then should we believe that man comes from another species? If evolution is true, then it is proof that the Bible is false. However, the whole of creation stands in contradiction to the theory of evolution.

Dr. Kent Hovind of Florida has a standing offer of $250,000 to "anyone who can give any empirical evidence (scientific proof) for evolution." Evolution— true science fiction. His website is www.drdino.com.

For the man himself maybe, for the Catholic Church not at all. Unlike some of the Christian sects in the USA most of the Christains out there have no problem at all with evolution.

For many Americans it is difficult to realise that the world does not stop at your borders.

and yet again the replies to this posting show nothing but ignorance... and its revelled in!

Pope Benedict did not say Jesus was a mutation.

You must not be a bible believing Christian, because Christians know It IS a Sin to Lie !
Satan is the father of lies. He is not the Pope's father, nor mine. Is he your father ?
Repent of your lies, all your lies. And turn to God for forgiveness. He will have mercy on your, if you truly repent, with a true honest, genuine, sincere repentence(it means to turn from one's willful sins completely, in case you did not know).
