God wants us to be knowledgable. He wants us to read His Word and really study it. This way we can feel confident and then help pass it on to others. A preacher might help clarify some things to you or give you new persepectives but you definitely should study yourself. In instances of uncertainty, then you should take God's word for it, pray, and trust that He knows exactly what He's doing.
In response to a comment made above that said that Christians are taught to believe eveything in the Bible and, therefore, can't think for themselves - not true. Most Christians I know including myself choose to believe everything in the Bible because we feel inside ourselves (from the Holy Spirit) that it is the absolute truth. You can be taught anything, it doesn't mean you have to believe in it. It's your own choice to do that.

sounds like to me you don't know what blind faith is. you have to have this in order to be saved from your sins.if you don't have this faith then how can you be saved and someone has had to tell you about what you needed to do to get saved. anybody can call themselves a christian and still not be saved. the word christian is used to loosely today. we are always encouraged to study and read the bible and to learn the principles of the word of God and that is what preachers and pastors are to do. the Bible tells them to feed the flock. any good devoted pastor or preacher as you say, would want his people to study and learn the Word od God. i would venture to say that there are not too many people that could say that they fully understand all they study in the BIBLE. this to me would be like going to school and been told to learn without a teacher. everything has it's place in the work of GOD. head knowledge is not what we need, heart knowledge is what we need. i encourage you study and read the Bible, but also listen to those that may have more understanding in the word od God than you. GOD BLESS YOU.

Anyone of *any* religion that is given a rigid dogma, and told it is absolute truth with no room for revision, is being taught not to think for themselves.
Many fundamentalist christians, who are taught that every single word in the bible is absolute truth, are in such a position. That position fails to recognize that much of the bible comes from oral myths passed down through generations (and subject to gross errors -- ever play "telephone?"), that much of it is written as stories meant to teach a point in life or of morality and not necessarily to be true, and that all of it was written by people who knew an ancient world devoid of science and only a few hundred square miles in any direction. That there are things in the bible that are scientifically incorrect doesn't mean the book is useless -- on the contrary, anyone (even an atheist) can learn from the poetry, moral lessons, and guides to living a peaceful life. But to take the position that it's absolute truth is to stick your head in the sand and ignore the learning that has gone on since those books were written -- and doesn't allow one to think for one's self.

First I want to say congratulations. You are among a small group that thinks about the Christian faith. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a christian as long as you understand what it is you have accepted. Christianity has been so distorted during the centuries since Jesus. It is important to understand what Jesus taught. And it is more important to apply those teachings to your life. You are a spiritual child of God....remembering that is your starting point.

None. Some are born into their faith in the same way people are born into a world where the sun rises. It may not be until much later in life, if ever, that they question why the sun rises...or anything else for that matter. It's up to the individual as to what they want to question.
What's worse are those who believe they have the right to think for others and dictate the questions one must ask.

Blind faith is to give up common sense. I am glad you can think for yourself despite what is written in some old book.
There are so many religions available. Consider religion as a product. If one brand doesn't fit your needs then shop around until you find one that does.

Religion has evolved tremendously over the centuries but generally tries to keep its historical wisdom. If somebody tells you that thinking for yourself or that coming to your own conclusions is a sin, that person is merely reflecting very obsolete religious views. (Remember Galileo and the whole Universe thing?)
As people progressively get smarter, their attitudes toward religion should be more objective. We should not look at all teachings as God's truth because the people who teach them are just that; people.
