Richard Branson's Virgin Vodka, distilled in Girvan, Scotland, was withdrawn from some distribution channels, as early as Autumn 1998. The market was seen to be too price-sensitive. A move towards commodity status was seen as detrimental to the Virgin brand as a whole, not just the vodka.

Sales of both Virgin Cola and Virgin Vodka, had fallen well short of expectations in their first year, 1995.
