Open-mindedness.

Only an idiot thinks they know everything. A truly intelligent person recognizes that they have a lot to learn!

The ability to both memorize and elaborate on information.

That's it and that's all... We are not special!

Intelligence is a property of mind that encompasses many related mental abilities, such as the capacities to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas and language, and learn. In common parlance, the term smart, metaphorically used is frequently the synonym of situational and behavioral (i.e. observed and context dependent) intelligence.

I knew to cut and paste that from the wickipedia... does that make me smart or the guy that actually wrote it?

I have a better question... Is an Idiot savant actually intelligent?

What the hell does "looking presentable" or being "compassionate" have to do with intelligence? You must be a young Republican and she must be a Liberal Democrat (or something?)

You know there are different levels of intelligence, For example I have a high lvl of computer intelligence, and I can make Entire bronze sculptures, some that are on display in city parks....

So you can have a high level of intelligence on certain things, socially I think it comes with experience. anyone can go to school and learn about certain things -that does not make you intelligent, what does is the fact that you take those thing you learned in school and try to learn even more about a particular thing, some people have a knack for learning things faster then others and people who apply them self’s more then others can usually become quite intelligent.

If you want to be intelligent, find something you really like and apply your self, learn all you can about it.

There's a doctor out there that actually says there are seven different kinds of intelligence. Some of them are Emotional intelligence, Mathmatical reasoning intelligence, musical intelligence, language intelligence...these are from a fuzzy memory so probably not exactly right, but a google search should bring up the different kinds of intelligence.

The desire and ability to constantly learn, all throughout life. That means *always* being open to new discoveries and information that may challenge long-held beliefs, and the ability to make reasoned and rational analyses of such information.

"Intelligence" is usually considered to be the "ability" to learn, and is different from knowledge (which is *how much* you've learned). You can know a lot of stuff and not be very intelligent, having just rote memorized a bunch of things. But intelligence implies the ability to learn, and to make the best use of knowledge.

Overall, I feel that it's important for a person to be educated. However, if they spend all their time with their noses in their books, they are also missing out on some very imperative social skills. Without common sense to fall back on, you have no ground to stand on. Hands-on experiences will always pull things together.

Good question.... in my opinion you have to have a good vocabulary. Also be able to carry yourself well, look presentable all the time. Having great people skills, being able to talk to anyone, anytime. And having experiance/wisdom which cannot be taught. Being able to handle intellegently any situation that is thrown infront of you.... i think thats it!

Common sense! A receptive mind. Ya know, a mind that understands what she is hearing, even for the first time.
