I'm tolerant and I'm a protestent so I'd like to say that Protestants are more tolerant but that wouldn't be based off of facts other than what I would like to assume.
The problem is that you can't lump people into categories and say that most catholics are intolerant or that protestants tend to be more tolerant than catholics. How tolerant a Christian is depends on variables affecting their individual personality as well as how they interpret their religion's point of view on people of other beliefs.

I have to go with protestants, wasn't it in fact some of the ways that they saw the Catholic church wronging people that caused that split in the first place? After all Protestants and Lutherans are simply offshoots of the Catholic church as I understand it. Although the Catholic church will tolerate a great deal of wrong doing if you keep the money coming in,some of their churches in Africa are as oppressive to their followers in many ways as the Catholic church was hundreds of years ago,and as far as recent problems within the Catholic church the pressure they put upon their members whos children were harmed was unreal and showed a great deal of intolerance for parents who wanted justice for their children, while showing a great deal of tolerance for aberrant behavior within the priesthood. So I guess it's all a matter of what you want tolerated.

They can both be equally tolerant or intolerant - it depends on the individual. I have known the extremes in both Protestants and Catholics.
However, since there are more liberal branches of Protestants - those that allow women or gays to be priests and ones that allow gay marriage. I would say overall that Protestants are more tolerant.

Given purely the scope, "protestant v. catholic", catholic, because protestantism includes evangelicals, who preach nothing but hate.
Mormons though are almost frighteningly, however, the most tolerant people I've met --a mormon friend suspected some EXTREMELY socially unacceptable things about me (which were true, in this case), looked over at a mutual friend of me & her, asked if she was right, my friend said yeah, and she shrugged and never said a word about it again; she had only asked out of sincere curiosity, and despite the many opportunities, she never got preachy with me, never snubbed me, never changed in the slightest.
***THAT*** is the essence of tolerance!

Tough call. I"m biased towards Catholics, but my father is protestant. It all depends on who you talk to. We have tolerant and intolerant people on both sides.

If given the choice between the two I would say Protestants. Catholics not only are extremely intolerant but are some of the biggest hypocrites of all the various sects in Christianity. Though I have to say Christianity is the most intolerant religion of all of them.

Depends where you are in the world. In my experience in the USA Catholics, in Europe Protestants, and in the rest of the world they are just as insufferable as each other.

I would not hazard a guess on that one since every religion is rife with prejudice and intolerance. You can find a few who are tolerant in any religion but most of all religions are intolerant of others. It has to do with the whole be true to your school thing. You hang with your clique and look at those who are not part of your tight little circle of friends with disdain and a holier than thou attitude. It is unfortunately human nature.

Today,Catholics may be by a slight amount. They are more involved in the religion in their home life and are thus veiwed as more extreme,so are more careful in person.Protestants have less religous symbolism close to them and so assume the role as rank and file conservative.
