It's only 3 years if there has been no cantact between the two parties. After 3 years its then written off. If there is less than 3 years between communication then i'm afraid you have to pay.

there are certainly a statute of limitations on various types of debt for a normal writ in the county court it is 3 years. It is long time since I did that bit of law and I am not near my law books at the moment bout I do remember there are different periods for different types of claim

its seven years for student loans and three years for other - if you go to a trustee in bankruptcy they will have it discharged completely within a year
