After an eight year stint in the Navy, I've decided to let my hair grow out while I'm in college. I also work in an office, and while I think it's going to look really good once it gets long, I'm worried that it might look really bad in the meantime. What is the best way to go from short to long without looking all scruffy and unkempt? Should I still get it trimmed and the back of my neck cleaned-up periodically?

Yes, its hard to let your hair grow out, but it's worth the effort. Just do like you mentioned and it will be just fine. I just bet your good-looking anyway, so have a (who cares) attitude.

I think the best thing would be to let it grow, but once in a while get a trim for dead ends, or maybe the area around the ears, especially when its just starting to grow out, the hair overlapping the ears is what makes it look messy and unprofessional. I suggest going with a layered or feathered look. Check out the link for some awesome ideas!! I like #1 or #8 for the pictures. Hope you like it!

As your hair grows out; just simply keep it kept, with conditioning sprays that can help lay it down so that you don't have strays going every which way. And keep a brush or comb on hand as your hair grows out. When your hair starts to grow to a good length to where you can put it in a ponytail, do so before going to bed.

And also keep trimmed so that it stays healthy, not having the split ends appearance when it gets long.

Good Luck!!

Find a good hair stylist and discuss with her/him your end goal, you will gradually grow it out but will go threw several hair styles in the process. Keep it trimmed, and your stylist will advise you about what products you can use to keep it looking un scruffy in the process. Good luck with your future, sounds like you have a good life in frnt of you...TY for the 8 years of service with the Navy.

Get it trimmed often, and deep condition whenever possible.

my hubby has long hair..when I met him in 1990, he had it medium length and feathered, went to a "Kurt Cobain" look, and its finally all one length..down to his waist..

I thought it looked good in all stages of growth, but he never did have truely short hair...

Do it..we need more good looking men with long, sexy hair!!!
