Walking 1 mile and running 1 mile both burn the same amount of calories. The difference is that running is faster, and walking is easier on your joints.

Both are good for you. In your workout it's best to start off with a warm up by walking for a little bit and then gradually get into a jog and then go a little bit faster for the main part. When your done running slow down gradually into a walk again this is your cool down. And don't forget to drink plenty of water.

I started off walking, then started running, and my knees started having problems. Try this:
I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.
It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.
A sight with some really cool diet calculators and interesting calorie counting calculators is here. Check it out.

Stay motivated, and get up and walk every day. I seriously lost all my weight starting off my day on my walk.
Good LUCK!

Walking is better for your joints. Your knees, ankles and feet get the impact of your run.
Walking is better for you because it's easier on your body. The only thing is, you cannot walk a snail's pace. You must walk fairly fast and by swinging your arms, you get the most out of this exercise. Also, get good walking shoes.

If you are doing them as a cardio workout both are equal that is mile for mile. with running you get there faster so you can do more miles in less time. running is harder on the knees and joint because of the jarring but if you have a good pair of shoes you should be fine. I prefer running I can go further so I get a better work out in less time

anytime you can raise your heart rate for at least 20 min you will help yourself. Running is considered a high impact excercise and is hard on some peoples knees. I would start with walking and once you feel good try to run alittle or maybe walk a lap and run a lap

For your heart, brisk walking is better because it has the exact same effects on your heart as running and is low impact.
For weight loss, running is better because it burns more calories.

walking is easier on your joints. not as much impact. it's good for someone who just wants to moderately exercise as a routine. running is, i think, for seriously athletic individuals. or, if you do take up running, make sure you get the appropriate shoes and take it easy.

Walking is easier on the knees. Walking is easier to commit to. Running could cause dogs to chase you....

Walking is effective for me because it helps with my breathing and helps me see the scenery around me plus ya can't get cramps as fast.
