having gastric bypass surgery is unChristian? I ask because I had it done several years ago and I was told it was going against God to have it done as it was vanity.

Grand wazoo I was not saying anything negative. I do not know how that could equate me to being like a Jehovah's Witness...but okay.

Why do you continue to associate yourself with an organization that fosters such narrow-minded, judgmental personalities? Not only do they think that they would have made a different decision (a perfectly legitimate statement), but they they purport to know the will of God and tell you that you're sinning.

If they're against gastric bypass, then they don't have to have one. From their point of view, plastic surgery after an accident would be vanity, as well, and so against God's will.

As a religion, Jehovah's Witnesses do not have an opinion on gastric bypass surgery for their adherents or anyone else. Individuals and families must make such decisions for themselves.

Oh brother! No, I do not believe it is going against God's will to have surgery. There are many things we all do in a day that are against God's will for our lives, we are not perfect. God is not going to condemn you to hell because you had gastric bypass surgery. God judges you by your heart. Don't even allow that sort of thinking enter your spirit. God bless.

Good grief. The worst part of fundamentalist christianity isn't the religion itself, it's the PEOPLE who practice it!! Anyone who thinks they know ANY gods opinion on having surgery done is OUT OF THEIR TREE. If gastric bypass surgery is 'vanity', so is putting on make-up, brushing your hair or wearing anything other than a potato sack.

I think that medically gastric bypass is dangerous as it is not known what the future health effects are going to be. The person stays in a malnourished state after it is done.

That's all I know.

I don't see how it could be "Un-Christian" if the person has the surgery to become healthier. Excess weight can be a dangerous thing. When you take care of your body, you're letting God know that you're grateful to be alive.

From that point of view, you can call it a gift from God and a chance to live a better life. That doesn't seem "Un-Christian" to me.

Once a person is born of God, person has put on Christ righteousness (redeemed by His Blood).

Doing this surgery isn't going to make a person more or less righteous. What God sees when looking at you, is the righteousness of His Son.

It is true that God sent His Word and healed us of all our diseases. By His stripes we were healed. Etc... But God allows us to go according to our faith. If God convicted your heart to not have this surgery, then to be obedient to God is what is important. But if God seemed silent, then God allowed you to go according to your faith level at that time.

If you purposely disobeyed God, and feel convicted today, then just repent it to God. If we sin, we confess our sin, and He is faithful & just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

A Christian is made the righteousness of Christ when redeemed by His Blood. Nothing we can do or not do can change God's Promise.

I don't believe what you were told. It is your job to take care of the body you were given. Having that surgery has probably made you healthier in many ways, mental and physical. And, I don't think you were wrong to have it done.

I do my best not to go around telling people they are un-Christian, or they are going to Hell, etc. I don't think any of that is mine to judge. And, I'm sure not perfect!

Hi, whoever told you this is way off the mark,God has given us many gifts and talents and medicine is but one of these.
God would expect us to use the skills of a doctor and it would be foolish indeed to neglect one`s health.
St. Luke was reportedly a physician.

Vanity? Why in the world would that be considered vanity? You most likely increased your life expectancy...as well as the quality of your life!

Don't listen to noisemakers.

God bless and strengthen you.
