I found a random gray hair on top of my head when i was combing my hair. It's really weird because as far as my mom and dad's genetics go, they don't have any sign of gray hair until 39, and 50, respectively. My dad has his hair still and is just now going more gray at 50. My mom found one strand of gray hair on her head when she went to go get a perm. Her dad has all of his hair at 63 and went gray around 55. I'm the anomaly in my family. As far as puberty goes at 18 years old, I have barely and facial hair, if any-- it would be above my upper lip, but barely visible. My arm and leg hair gets sparser everyday. Even my pubic region is still growing more hair. I don't know if body hair is indicative of me still being in puberty though. My dad doesn't have arm hair or leg hair because he is asian. My mom grows leg hair, but not arm hair. But an interesting thing she told me was her dad and brothers don't have arm hair. Now i find a gray hair on my head, does that bode more gray soon?

Could there be any psychological stress that i could attribute this random strand of gray hair to? or possibly something in my diet or daily routine i need to change? I'm not physically active, meaning i don't exercise, and i don't smoke or drink.

I would start being active...& eating well. There may be a recessive gene from a relative somewhere.
Best of luck to you...

Don't worry about it. My brother got his first gray around 17 or 18. Those odd strays just came in puberty. Hormones I guess. He's 21 now. He just has a few grays on his head, face, and neck. They are barely noticeable. He shows them off to girls and they think it's hot! He's a total vegetarian, doesn't smoke, rarely drinks. If he's "mister healthy" and still has a new gray here or there then you shouldn't blame yourself. Oh, yeah. You'll be changing for years to come since puberty isn't over till 30! Yeah, I'm for real! Make sure %80 of what you eat is what you'd consider "good" and get active 30 min a day. Read your Bible and sleep well. You'll be just fine dude/dudette.

One Strand Of Grey Hair

There are many factors that cause grey hair, including genetics, stress, diet, etc. As long as you take good care of your body, you should be able to counteract the non-genetic factors. But don't worry too much about the single grey hair you found. I was 11 when I found my first ones. It wasn't until nearly 20 years later when anymore showed up. Yes, I know that's still young, but in my family there's premature greyness and balding. But you already said you don't really have that, so I don't think you have to worry about it for quite some time.

Sounds like stress. A my first job, my hair had gray strands all over the place, and I was 17 years old. After I started my neew job, it pretty much disappeared. Could also be an Asian trait as was for me. Try to relax and don't worry too much about it otherwise you'll get more gray.

It sounds like you are a worry-wart, don't worry so much about it. You can't control what your body does(most of the time) and that doesn't mean that you are going to turn gray now either. It can change for a lot of reasons, #1 is stress, also diet and another thing is just your hormones. Don't worry girl...you will be alright...you aren't going gray, just pluck it and get on with it!!

Just pluck it out. Many Asian kids get stray gray hairs even when they're teenagers. It's normal, and the rest of your hair won't turn gray until you are much normal. Chill out.

It's just one grey hair..pull it and don't worry about it...you can not control when you will get grey hair....it is very normal to find a random grey hair at young ages. This does not mean that you will turn grey any time soon....

Grey hair IS genetic. It may not have to do with your parents but with their parents or even before them. One grey hair doesn't mean that you will be getting a lot more soon. It could be just a 'fluke'...I wouldn't worry.
