There is a big difference there. Religion, unlike sexual orientation, and race, is a personal choice of what one chooses to believe. If those beliefs are incompatible with reality they deserve examination and in some cases ridicule.

Political conflict stems from human tendency toward selfishness and bigotry, from seeing people in opposition, as "them vs. us" instead of "we." Any separation and distrust is projected onto "race" "religion" "culture" "age" "gender" and any other way you could possible divide people into groups. The root is separation, and selfish competition, instead of thinking and acting in terms of cooperation. So yes, religion and race can be equally used to divide as to unite on common causes.

Please see "Center for the Healing of Racism" which tries to address the roots of racism or separation as a spiritual "disease" of the heart and mind first, before it becomes a physical conflict or words or ideology. This group and its members offer forums and dialogues to try to "heal" the hurts that plant the seeds in the spirit that otherwise spread like any other "disease." Religion and race are merely used as weapons in a war, where people fight for identity and control against what is perceived to be opposition. In truth we oppress ourselves and each other by remaining divided. The only way to heal of this is to heal together, as everyone and every group has suffered their own history of injury while humanity strives to evolve past the competitive mode and to develop more cooperative models and systems of governing and interacting. Until we respect both the individual members and groups, as well as equality among the different cultures and institutions, we will continue to see struggle for power based on past perceptions, and need to look toward future ideals if we are going to achieve those together.

I'm not sure about overseas. In the US, it has come to be very political and very sectarian. Does the word "faction" mean anything to you?"

That word makes me think of paranoid little splinters and fringes that are basically against the whole world. Anyone not in the fringe is "evil," in other words, hated and feared. The hypnosis they run is so one-sided, the people involved are unable to see this.

Their whole purpose in life is to divide people and demonize others. Notice, even terrorists have a sense of community amongst themselves.

Become? Check your history books, how do you think the USA was founded.

And to make it clear, [people left Europe to escape from religious persecution not racial persecution and most conflicts in the world are between people of the same race but different religions as they always have been.

False religion is just as prejudiced as the world. They are often racists. Look at the white supremecy movement that is often basedon what they say God says. It is NOT. that is a lie. God says HE loves us all the same.
BUt, a true Christian is never racist or prejucied. They do know right from wrong, and express it as God says to do, so the world will KNOW and be warned. because God loves us all.
We love the sinner but hate the sin. becasue we care.
If you meet someone thats prejudiced and a racist, you hve just meet someone that truly does not Know God or His word. PPL can wear the Christian label and not be one at all. remember that, and try not to lump all us so called Christians into one group. thats prejudice also.

People cannot chose what race they are.

People do choose to live in a delusional fantasy and as such cannot claim prejudice unless in their individual case it is a chemical imbalance making them susceptible to the fraud of religion.

Unfortunately, I think there are those who have become prejudice, using the name of God. It saddens me because this is just the opposite of the way Jesus has taught us to be. We are to be loving and accepting, forgiving and not turn away anyone. It's sad...absolutely. God bless you, my friend.
