It depends on the situation. If a guy already has a big ego he's looking to inflate it more by flirting with as many women as he can. A guy who has less of an ego will probably try to flirt with just one particular girl he's interested in. Flirting is the human equivalent of a mating ritual.

I think whenever a guy flirts, he's interested. If he was a real man, he wouldn't flirt with anyone except his wife or gf. That's just my opinion though. Maybe I'm too old fashioned when it comes to this, but I think its true. If he was single though, that's different. I think a single guy who flirts is still interested but its okay to flirt then, because he wants to find a gf and not stay single. Either that or he has something else in mind which I think is wrong.

People flirt to find whether there is a chance for anything more, kind of like an introduction, only without exchanging names. Names come later, sometimes, if both parties want to go further. Same as a "line".

Im not saying that men and women dont flirt but I am saying everyone flirts for their own reasons.

at first they're really interested. that's what get them to flirt. the action of getting them to flirt is generally fueled by their ego. if the girl gives in then he'll go from flirting to macking. in that realm he likes the girl already!
