I'm not talking about talking with a mouth full just while you're chewing relatively small bites.

I think that it is not polite only because some people have weak stomachs and find that sort of thing disgusting. Out of respect for others, you should not talk with a mouth full of food. I am not one of those people and i happen to like to show my food all chewed up to unsuspecting dinner mates! Bottom line, if you're not sure that they wont find it gross, don't do it.

It's not so much bad manners as it is disgusting. I mean, when you're chewing food and talking, inevitable some food may spit out of your mouth, which is really gross! No one wants to see food fly out of your mouth! Plus, I don't care how clear you sound with food in your mouth, you sound clearer and can enunciate more without it! What I do when someone catches me with a mouth full of food is I do a little smile for them, and put up my hand with a pointed finger to let them know that A) I can't talk at that precise moment, and B) I will answer them as soon as I swallow my food and can talk correctly

Yes it is! Swallow your food so you don't choke.
What is really bad is kids do this at McDonald's, talk and chew with their mouths open and their ignorant parents do the same. Chew with your mouth shut. Talk after you swallow your food.

Yes, it probably is... but I think most people do this. I know I'm guilty of it. However, most of the time, I'm eating with family and it's not such a big deal. In a very formal situation, I would think you'd never want to do this.

Everybody thinks that talking with food in your mouth is rude...I think it's rude for somebody to ask you anything while you're eating.

But no I don't think it will be rude.

It still is, as something may fall out, plus I can;t hear what you say.

I'll wait until you finish your lovely Chicken Divan, OK?

in my house we have a rule:
CHEW
SWALLOW
THEN SPEAK
in that order. it is extremely rude to speak with food in your mouth, not to mention disgusting.
we have this rule in our home because of my hearing deficiency. if you have food in your mouth trying to chew whilst speaking i can not understand you because i read lips
