He's the owner of a sports center, we had a date and nearly had "something" else, but I said no, too much troubles on my side, that was months ago, things are starting to get better. I haven't heard from him since, we weren't so close as to have him worrying about me so I think he did the right thing to stop calling, but I keep trying to call, at least to go to the club, but I never do, what would you say to him?I'd like something light and funny

Say that you are getting into the Christmas spirit by getting in touch with everyone who you haven't talked to in a while and missed, and he was at the top of the list. This will flatter him, be a perfectly sensible thing for you to do around the holidays (so you don't seem too needy), and give you a nice way to start talking again.
