Okay I actually have two questions.

1) Matthew 11:28-29 says Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

*I really like this verse but I think I'd like it even more if I could remember what my pastor said about the word yoke. What does it mean?

2) I want to start memorizing more scripture but I don't know where to start. I want to memorize things that I could recall in times of trouble, etc. but I don't know which ones that would be. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Team up together. When two horses are yoked together, they help each other pull the load.

When one of the team is weaker than the other, the stronger one carries more of the weight.

When you are yoked with Jesus, He is stronger, and He will carry your burden.

When you are "unequally yoked", perhaps marrying an unbeliever, or going into partnership with an unbeliever, then you don't have the same goal: to put God first and foremost.

Start by going to Psalms. David went through so much, good and bad, you will find a scripture for every need. Start by finding a verse that really means something to you, write it on a 3x5 index card, and carry it around with you.

Keep all your cards. Make a file, labeling the subject (like "forgiveness" "anger" "worship" "promises", etc.) and file that scripture where you feel it belongs. Then, when you ask yourself "I know that scripture, but can't remember where it is", then you have a card catalog to go to.

My card catalog helps me when I am preparing a lesson.

A yoke was a wooden bar that connected two draft animals to a cart. It made it easier for them to pull the cart.

There was also a training yoke used to train young animals. This yoke was designed so that only one animal did any actual work. The other was just along to find out how it feels and what to do. This is the yoke Jesus was talking about. He does all the work. We just need to come along, and stay close.

Well, a yoke is a wooden harness used across the shoulders of oxen when they are pulling a plow or a cart. It means that Jesus's "yoke" or harness is not as heavy as the world's and easier to pull. It keeps you going in the right direction.

The Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John have many comforting scriptures, especially John 3:16 Also look to Proverbs.

Hi, a yoke was a wooden type collar that was used to pull the Jewish plough, it rested over the shoulders and had a shaped hollow for comfort and ease,it was pulled by one man and was a heavy burden to pull all day, there was also a double version that allowed two men to pull the plough and this meant to share the heavy burden and this is what Jesus was alluding to,that He would help share the poor mans load or burden,by not placing too much on the back of his followers.

1. Yoke is a collar that an ox or other animal uses to pull a plow.
So when we work and come into the service of Jesus, we learn from him.

2. There is a little paperback called something like "Bible promises"
It gives you verses for each situation (fear, temptation, sadness, mourning etc.)
Keep it in your desk or purse and use it as a reference. Go to in whenever you have need. Soon you will have MANY verses memorized. That's the best way of storing up scripture in your heart.

Be Blessed!!!!!!

I. Yoke is harsh treatment and lack of freedom that is difficult to bear. Example: yoke of slavery. Synonyms: bonds, chains
II. I'm sure that there are some ways that help one to memorize things but to learn lines from the Bible by heart just to say them at apropriate time is pride and vanity. In times of trouble just pray

The yoke you are refering to is the principles, ideas, concepts, and way of life for a rabbi. A rabbi chose a disciple to learn the rabbi's paticular yoke. This meant that as a chosen disciple, you would eat, drink, sleep, and live as the rabbi does. Copy his every move, decision, and way of thinking. You would assume his yoke.

A rabbi would chose one person out of many. So it was an honor to be chosen because only he was beleived to have what it takes.

Christ chose everyday ordinary people. He chose the desciples and he also chose you and me. Jesus knows we all have what it takes. Everybody is worthy of God's wisdom, mercy, and grace.

As for memorizing scripture; I know only of repetition. If you read a devotional daily, attend a bible study, attend a church service, and share the bible with friends, eventually, you just start to remember verses. Try picking up a copy of "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. It's a great source to get a good foundation of scripture to recall in times of trouble. To start right away, pick a verse and write it down, placing it somewhere you will see it frequently. The bathroom mirror for mornings. The dash of your car.

It's great to hear that you are seeking Him in His word. He seeks you daily too. Don't forget the power of prayer. Good luck in your search and God bless.

It means to yoke up with the Lord. Give all your burdens to the Lord. Learn of the Lord. He is gentle and humble and not intimidating or condemning.

Abide in the Lord's love and His Word, ask what you will, and He will answer.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
