Personally I believe that most people who use pirated software wouldn't buy it anyway. I'm sure it hurts the company just not nearly as much as pirating other stuff such as music and video. What is your take on it?

Software companies can't lose what they would've never had in the first place..... Teddy uses Ableton Live.. he would NEVER be able to buy that program at $500 because he is broke. So has Ableton lost $500 or have they gained a extra mouth to spread the word of their software??? hmmmmmm

I agree with you. Most of the people don't like to spend money on original copies. Pirated music causes serious damage to a company's economy as compared to pirated software. Music piracy is a very frequent phenomenon.

YES! Piracy hurts software, music, and the movie industry, They release their products for people to buy and enjoy, when they get it for free without paying for it, it is: 1. Against the law 2. Thats another person who could have been a customer instead of a robber. 3. Especially with the economy right now, money is money and those who pirate what they want are hurting everyone in a big way. If you released your own program that you charge people for, and you find out that everyone is getting it for free on internet, I thin you would be mad because you are losing money and you will go out of business soon. Hope I cleared that up. PS. When you said most people who download pirated software wouldnt buy the real thing??? Uh exactly. They didnt want to pay for it so they pirated it.

I think software piracy hurts the consumers more than it does the software industry. Because the less these software companies make, the more they will charge for their software to make up for the loss. As a result, for the consumers who are willing to PAY for or BUY the software end up paying more to cover software companies losses.

Piracy is the result of excessive prices charged by the s/w developers. To get over this problem, cheap editions of American books are published for Asians. Why not follow the same practice in software also.

as of 5 years ago it cost them 1.8billion a year. so im sure now its much more than that. but if you look at coorporations like microsoft...they are huge. besides more often than not its for evaluation purpases only. its not like im going to steal Maya, or photoshop and sell my movies for millions.
im sure maya doesnt cost 12,000 because people steal software.
maya only represents .000000001% of all the companies in the 1.8 billion dollar margin.
in no way does jlp.media or its affiliates support piracy or other acts of crime.....its bad! dont steal! 10 commandments! praise jesus. borat:"hi five"

It doesn't. It encourages the use of Open-Source, which is the superior style of software.
