It depends on how much you worked and where you live - some states pay more than others.
when we lived in Or. we received almost 200 more a month than we do in Ok. but the cost of living is lower here than Or.

Depends on when you filed. It's fixed income with adjuments for cost of living.

My mother filed in the 1970s with minimum amount and got like $450

Today that amount has almost doubled to about $850 for a person filing a minimum amount.

It is probably twice that on the maximum side or between $1800 and $2000 a month.

Maximum side is making $65k or more per year in the last 7 years

Minimum side is making $20k or less per year in the last 7 years.

Understand, you are also eligable for a variety of discounts that vary state to state. Some states give you propertry tax breaks. Some areas let you sign up for "Section 8" housing.

My mother was actually getting Sectoin 8 Housing ($200 a month for a nice apartment), $455 in SS and another $100 in California SSI.

She also got a flat rate of $15 a month from the telephone compnay including taxes for basic service

She also got a reduced rate for Cable TV of $25 a month for standard service (including Sci Fi, for example).

She also got allowances for gas and electricity (a threshold level) which amounted to half rate for the first 100 units and normal rates above them. She exceeded these levels in winter and summer but not in spring and fall.

She was able to save $800 every quarter to six month and buy herself new items like TV sets, microwave ovens.

She was probably eliable to buy food stamps but didn't get into that program. That would have gotten her $250 in food stamps for $125 purchase.

All in all, once she got on the right set of programs she lived quite well and her California SSI Social Worker helped her and even forced her to do it, because my mother had lived in a dinky trailer before that and was paying $500 a month in space rental, which the SSI work said was outrgagious.

My mother also had 16 hours a week in basic home care, which incuding cleaning and giving her baths.

Quite a nice package you don't get in every state or area!

My mother worked for 55 total years and collected benefits partially for a few years and then totally.

She got a total of 25 years of benefits.

She also had her own prepaid burial plan which she paid a total of $1200 for plot and funeral in the 1960s, which today costs $12,500 today from the same company and the company honored her plan with no problems once I faxed them the paperwork.

it depends on how much you earned when you were paying in.
social security sends me a statement every year.
and it is between $1500 and $2000 per month that i will get
according to the statement. It also depends on when you draw it. you get less per month if you start getting it at 62, you get more if you wait until 65 (or 67 by the time i retire is the minimum age to get full benefits)
