My boyfriend's sister is coming in fromn out of town and she tries to run everyone's lives. I am always nice to her, but I have grown sick of her bitchiness and the way she is so condescending to him. He hates it too and always cant wait till she leaves, but how do I stay nice and still not take her bullcrap if she gives it to me?

Often the best way to handle rude, controlling people is to kill them with kindness. When she makes unwanted demands or suggestions, you should say, "Well thanks for your suggestion, but we prefer to do things a different way." Or, when she is nasty to your boyfriend or puts either of you down, you should say, "I'm really sorry you feel that way." A lot of times, people like that get their satisfaction from your reaction. If you act like you don't care, and show her that her attitude COMPLETELY unnaffects you, she'll eventually stop.

Both of you should just ignore her comments - if she does not get an arousal then she might stop or at least get the hint. As the old saying goes you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Be a sweet as you can and say nothing but nice things about your boyfriend etc.

If she starts in on you tell her that she needs to show you the same respect that you've shown her. Also tell her that you and him have your own lives and that she's welcome to be a part but you will not take her acting the way she has been. Or if she starts saying smart remarks ask her why she's saying that or who gave her the authority to try and run your life. Most people don't like to be questioned as to why they behave the way they do.

If you want to drive her nuts, just smile at her when she says something outrageous, and walk away.
Don't get involved in it, and don't take it seriously. You know she'll be leaving and the situtation is only short term.
It's up to your boyfriend to set her straight. It's his sister and you actually aren't a family member. He should show some resolve to protect not only himself, but your relationship.
Good luck.

Outrageous people are funny. Take it all as a joke. Act like you are there as an audience for her performance art. It's only one evening right? You and your guy will have stuff to goof on for weeks after this meeting.

Sounds like fun.

being polite yet firm does the trick most of the time .. next time she talks to you in a disrespectful way .. look into her eye sternly and tell her you do not appreciate her way of speaking to you ... talk in a steady and firm voice ... its better to have people around you when you are dealing with as that way if you manage to put her in place she will never be disrespectful to you ever again in her life ... most important of all never ever take crap from anyone ... you do not have to ... you always have an option of not being around her ...

My brother-in-law is the same way. I let him know in no uncertain terms to mind his own business, and he got the message. People like that do not take you saying no politely, and will keep being pushy and nosy until you tell them in no uncertain terms. Both you and your boyfriend need to put her in her place the moment she starts putting her nose into your personal business.

sounds like the mother.

be very polite and civil in tone but be a super smart *** btich in response to any crap she gives you. it's gotta be witty but not rude. then she can't say anything and maybe she'll see how she's acting. if she just lays into you relentlessly just go for the throat with a dull spoon
