Quite a while ago I went through treatment because I was addicted to methamphetamine. I've been clean for quite some time now. I basically started my whole life over, I've got a job, I'm learning how to save money again, and best of all learning how to deal everyday without the urge of using again. I'm actually very PROUD of myself, and so is my family and friends. My question is when will people stop judging me about my past? I know I made a huge mistake, I'd take it back in a heartbeat if I could. Is there some way I can prove myself to them?

I dont know your family, but after mine confronted me about my problem, I vowed to get clean. It was the hardest thing ive ever had to do. My family was there for me, and it took a while to get that trust back, and then i relapsed........twice. Trust gone again. Its been 3 years since the second relapse. I still think about it at least once a day. I do still feel horrible for what I did to my family and myself, but you have to let it go. Only you and others like you know what a struggle getting free from this horrible drug is. Your family will come back around. You must understand the failure rate of meth addicts. Eighty percent will relapse and never get clean. Your family and friends knows this im sure, they are just watching you right now to make sure that you dont slip, and when youve proven that they dont have to keep an eye on you. You will get that trust back. It takes a long time. The only way to prove to them that youve changed, is to change and STAY changed. People are always going to judge you for your bad choices. Thats just life. Dont let it get to you. Im so proud youve started over. Its nice to finally here of someone beating it. It takes a strong character to be able to stay on the strait and narrow. People who judge are shallow and ill informed of the depths of this addiction. Dont bother with them. Hold your head up for you, and fight the good fight.

Just keep your head up, and go through your daily routine as if nothing happened. Prove by example that you are straight now. Trust takes time, but eventually everyone will see that you are OK now.Stay away from the wrong crowd. You could get involved in Church activities - somehow people tend to think if you become a Christian, you will be better able to overcome temptations ( this is a myth, though) - remember you are human, and temptations are all around you, just resolve to stay strong. Make a list of all the good things about drug-taking ( if any) , and another of the bad - and compare, then keep reminding yourself of all the bad.
