The old dog may be suffering from depression. Maybe you should talk to him about this. Most people that are depressed don't tell people. Don't give up on him just yet.

Its a dog's life... however, every dog has his day, especially when it comes to resting, however, if he has a dogged determination to spend most of his time in bed, then he's making a bed for himself, in which to lie! Is THAT why you dont believe him?

You have to explain to him that its polar bears that go into hibernation and not dad's, get the growly old devil up and out of that bed or he will be feeling ruff, tell him its time for walkies.

Could be that you or other members of house hold - don't give him reason to get up out of bed? make an effort to make his life worth living. make him smile not frown. he wont want expensive prezzies- little things like helping out- ironing cleaning make his life pleasant- do things together- fun things. stop throwing moo dies at him- stand up for him if anyone puts on him.

maybe your dad is feeling a bit run down lol. he could be pineing for some affection , show him you care give him a treat take him walkies with his dog.
