I have an identical twin sister who has stuggled with clinical depression for many years. We are both Christians. For many years, I, who have never been diagnosed with any mental illness, thought she should just "snap out of it", have some faith, and pick herself up by the bootstraps. It wasn't till I got an udnerstanding of what depression was that I began to understand the physical and spiritual dynamics of depression. Some people can battle a temporary depression that is sometimes due to events in their life, past issues of hurt, etc. And sometimes those periods of depression are spiritual in nature, because depression not only affects the mind, but can very much affect one's spirit. They don't always have their origins in the spirit realm. Other times, there is, indeed, a spirit of depression that the enemy will bring to try and destroy a child of God. If a spiritual depression goes too long unattended, it is very possible for the brain to develop an chemical imbalance as well. There, of course, is clinical depression, that originates in the person's mind and is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain.
The LAST thing someone who is struggling with depression needs is a well meaning brother or sister in Christ telling them, "Have faith!" "Believe God for healing" Too often, those of us who don't struggle with mental illness shake our heads at the mentally ill. And God forbid a Christian should struggle with depression and need to take meds either temporarily or permanently. Surely they don't have enough faith in God! Surely they did something to bring this upon themselves! Yeah, they said that to Job too. How do you beileve God for healing when you can't even make it out of bed some days? How do you find your way to the mountaintop of faith, when the chemicals in your mind cause you to feel like you are in the abyss? That's the time when, we who are spiritual, should pray for them, help them in any practical way, and carry the load for them if God instructs us to. Make no mistake, people HAVE been miraculously healed by God from dperession. More often than not, God relys on us to walk thru WHATEVER he has seen fit to allow in our lives. WHY? Because somewhere along our journey, we will find someone who is struggling at that moment with what God has already brought us through. If you know someone who is battling with depression, LOVE THEM right where they are. Don't wait for them to get "better".

I think that almost everything now could be explained using science, even creation has now been answered in the light of the "big bang" theory which maybe in fact the way god created the universe!
Relating mental illness to satan or evil in my opinion is a way for blaming something that we cannot reach and is a way of running from the true problems that are really causing this depression. And in believing in such things, it would only lead to further depression because you're blaming something that you have absolutely no effect or command on.
So, instead of blaming this depression on some supernatural cause, maybe a visit to a good shrink could solve the whole problem.

I were ache from put up partum despair for the beyond one 12 months while I gave start to a little one boy. I could not quit considering how my husband loves him greater than me and the way matters possibly larger if he wasn't born in any respect. Thus, I stayed clear of him considering I knew that I would do some thing I will remorse for the relaxation of my existence. Almost immediately I went to a therapist and persuade them that I want aid. Among different matters, I've attempted natural dietary supplements and different publication to regard despair however not anything works just like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to mention I'm probably the most happiest mom on this planet. My husband loves us each very a lot and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us. Depression Free Method?

Some cases of depression are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. These are largely treatable with prescription drugs. I would say see a Dr. There are many root causes of mental illness as there are for physical illness. Genetics and/or spiritual influences can be a part of those causes. The only way to find out is to seek professional help - whether from a priest, a psychoanalyst/counselor and/or a medical Dr.
God gave us minds to be used for our benefit. It makes no sense not to seek help when it's needed.

As a Christian who stays medicated largely for the safety of others, I would say get help and do not think any less of yourself should you need medication. Sometimes counseling is all it takes but other times there is a more complex reason for the depression that is caused by a more physical issue. That should be addressed by a doctor and medication prescribed if necessary. Depression does not a second class person make.

It was really common even less than 50 years ago in the US for people to believe that others with mental illness were evil, or possessed, or had succombed to their satan. Sad.
In third world countries, it is still common to consider the mentally ill as possessed or evil.

As long as it isn't cronic. The best thing I might wanna do is just be there with them. And let them know that. But cronic depression might be a chemical imbalance within the brain. Not something evil. Something bio-medical

Everyone suffers from depression at some point in their lives. I would tell them to exercise, eat healthy, and see a psychiatrist if they have suicidal thoughts.

I would try to urge them to have a positive attitude. Having been depressed myself I know we can pull ourselves out of it by our own efforts.
Also I would recommend exercise, a good diet and some mindlessly fun and silly activities.
