I love watching the chicadees, blue jays, finch and woodpeckers however the garage roof is full of pidgeons which scare away the birds I want to feed.

I know that pigeons are ground feeders, but there are ways to get rid of the pigeons with out scareing away your smaller birds. Below is a link to a site that has the information you need.

There are a couple of things you can do. First of all, dont buy cheap bird seed. The millet and corn that makes up the bulk of these seed mixes is what draws the pigeons. Buy pure sunflower seed for birds like Cardinals, Jays, Chickadees and Titmice. You can use thistle for Gold-finches and any other finches in your area.

The second thing to do is to get the proper feeders. For the thistle use a finch feeder, which has very tiny holes that pigeons cant feed from. For the other birds you can get a weighted feeder that closes if anything heavy, like a pigeon or a squirrel. Also, keep feed off of the ground, which is where they prefer to feed. You may have a few pigeons left if you do this, but not as many.

Unfortunately, you have to take them all if you are offering food. You can try to make your garage roof an uncomfortable place for them by putting up plywood to make everything 45 degrees or steeper, but they would probably find another spot. I feed birds only with the plants in my garden, for this very reason, but I admit it does cut down the number and variety of visitors. I get cardinals, finches, hummingbirds, chickadees, robins, sparrows and a few other visitors, but most importantly no crows or pigeons.

Find someone thats a good shot with a beebee gun and add
onion shreds
mashed garlic
ginger shreds
gourmet powder
salt
sugar
powdered licorice root
ginger powder

1. Soak the pigeon in hot water for a while, then depilate it, remove the intestines, and clean it.

2. Mix up the onion shreds, mashed garlic, ginger shreds, powdered licorice root. Then seal them together with gourmet powder, sugar, salt in a jar to pickle for 1 hour or so.

3. Coat the pigeon with shortening liquid, after it is dry, fry it in a frying pot until done. When it looks scarlet, place it in a dish.

4. Get ready a small dish of Mongolian seasoning.

Good eating!

I have bird feeders too..but I don't have many pidgeons at all, and actually like seeing them on the rare occasion that they are around. I would say enjoy them all I guess..
