Romanys used to boil them and make stew with them, they also used to wrap them in clay and bake them in the fire. So why not try that.

If your child it too young to understand about parasites and diseases. Here is what you can do.

1. Send your son to the store with another adult ( your husband/ a well trusted friend) to pick up an item that you may not have.
It can be anything. Just so long as you can keep him out of the kitchen while your "cooking the hedgehog".

2. While your son is distracted take the rodent while wearing disposable gloves and wrap it into some old news papers.
Next put it into a trash bag and then out into the garbage container.

3. Next wash up. And then take out some meat from your freezer.
If you have chicken all the better. Put on a pot of cold water and let the chicken cook over medium high heat. Once it is fully cooked; chop the meat up into cubes. Then put on a pot of water to make pasta. Once the noodles are done add your child's favorite sauce; be it Spaghetti or Alfredo. Then mix in the chopped meat.

4. If however you happen to have beef instead. Cook the meat the same way that you would as a barbeque dinner. One way is to put the thawed beef into deep baking pan. Add some yellow onion wedges and a little water to the bottom the pan. Then add some of the BBQ sauce. Cover with foil and cook in the oven until done. About five minutes before removing from the oven add the rest of the sauce.

While I do not advocate misleading a child. Some time as a parent you do have to make exceptions to the rule. When your child is older you can explain to him that you did not want him getting round worms/or/ tape worms and that you wanted to keep him safe.

The old Romany (gypsy) way to cook a hedgehog is to roll it in clay and bake it in the embers of a bonfire. When ready, the clay is broken open and the spines come away still embedded in the clay...chunk meat into bite-sized pieces and add to stir-fry.

It's not the best idea to eat animals found dead outside. You don't know how long it has been dead, what parasites it may have, diseases, etc. It's not even a good idea to pick anything up as you can catch things from just touching it.
