the answer is YES it happens to all who got braces. so dont you worry bout it, you wont feel hurt anymore after a week.
but when you got to see your dentist again to control your braces you'll feel hurt again like the first time but it's only a week.
don't eat something hard, you could eat soup or porridge for a week.
goodluck!

My daughter got them in March. She didn't eat for 3 days. The pain will eventually go away but take some Motrin or Tylenol for now. If something is poking into your tongue then you may want to call the Orthodontist back. You could have some wire that is sticking out.
Good luck.

Oh, the memories! It will feel strange esp when they get adjusted - it pulls the teeth a bit. My treatment involved my small mouth losing eight Big teeth! It took me 4 yrs but this saves the remaining teeth hope 4 life. So my pain may not b same 4 U / others. Ignore rude coments / teasing again this is normal.
Ask what 2 take 4 pain & don't chew hard things & avoid candy if U can. Brush & floss is hard 2 do, so rinse well Listerine & flouride. Do what U can 2 prevent cavities / gum disease. The metal will poke inside your mouth. Apply Wax or similar generously.

Yes, it will hurt. In a few days you will feel better. I think the adjustment period after getting braces is the hardest part. Make sure a band is not poking into your tongue. I liked to eat soft, cold foods (ice cream, milkshakes, and yogurt) when I had pain from braces (use a spoon to eat the milkshake!). Be patient; you'll be back to yourself in no time. Good luck.

Make sure there are no loose wires that are poking you. All wires should have been trimmed down and should not be causing any pain. The soreness in your mouth is normal, it will take some time to go away. Just eat foods that dont require a lot of chewing and hang in there. Soups are best...chewing causes even more pain!

I got mine about 3 months ago and mine hurt. They hurt for a long time but that's only because my mouth is very grossly messed up. I'm sure your teeth probably aren't as messed up mine are. check to see if there is a wire or something poking your tongue. if there is you need to put some wax on it (if you can) and go to the orthodontist to have it fixed asap. take some pain relievers like tylenol or use some orajel. well i hope this helps and i hope u start feeling better. good luck=)

The pain will go away, but don't each anything that will stick or is gooie, like carmels or gum. Eat soft stuff, and don't forget to use mouthwash to keep the braces clean.
Every time you go to the denist to get them adjusted they will hurt for a one or two days.
Ask your mom and doctor if you can have tyonal for the pain.
I love ice cream, but sometimes cold or real hot stuff hurt.
I was glad when they came off

if you feel like something is poking (like a wire) try putting wax on the sharp part (your ortho should have given you some, if not you should ask him for some). for the pain i would take exedrine or bayer... something stronger than tylonal. the pain should stop after a week or two. try eating soft foods too so you don't aggrivate the nerves that are already hurting you.

Hi there, my mom just got braces (at almost 60 years of age). =) She said that hers hurt her for about a week but after that just felt like normal. Every now and then she would feel uncomfortable in her cheek areas, and she is always picking at her braces getting the food out but other than that everything is going fine, and her orthodontist said that she will probably get to get them out sooner than expected, and she is thrilled with that report lol. Good luck!

Your dentist should have given you this little container of wax, try putting that on the wire where it hurts. Wear it until you see your ortho, you must have a wire that is longer than the other. But don't wait too long, you may end up with a killer canker sore!
