my father owns a few farms in california and he would not make it without his contractors (it's a known fact the contractors hire out illegals). My dad used to make his kids work out in the fields for the summers from the age 9 to about the summer before we went to college and it was horrid, I had heat stroke and bones ached like never before and since. I honestly would never want to go back to doing it and that is why I got my college education. I don't understand why illegals want to come out here, just to do that, it's long hours, hard work and it SUCKS! Honestly, would you go out there, I somehow doubt that Lou Dobbs or other critics of illegals would do that type of work or subject their kids to do it.

Oh and the person above me, the ecoli was started by wild pigs that roam in Salinas, I am from that area and know for a fact they exist. You should get your facts straight or at least read a newspaper before you comment on something you know nothing about.

They are a crucial part of the agriculture process and have been for more than 50 years. If we look at it historically, we will see the Bracero Program during World War Two when Mexicans were hired to help with the agriculture flowing. Although I dislike illegal immigration personally, it is wrong to deny the credit that they deserve. It is a fact that they represent a great deal of the “undocumented” agriculture workforce especially in the southwestern states. A good deal of those illegal immigrants send money back to Mexico to support their families and they are winning to work the lower wages, less benefits, etc. In fact, it would be logical to assume that most illegal immigrants work pretty hard considering business are willing to hire them despite the fact that most knows they are illegal.

(To user: "United We Stand")
Its funny how your name states "United We Stand" yet your messages bring greater division with all the hatred it is generating. By the way, there wasn't anything that pointed to Mexicans poisoning spinach with E. Coli.

It's not "illegal immigration" that helps agriculture. It's the work the illegal immigrants DO. Those same jobs would be done by legal immigrants and American citizens if illegal were deported, as they should be. When illegal immigrants are gone, those business owners will be required to pay Americans a wage in which Americans are entitled to, since we wouldn't be competing with third world wages any longer. The Americans will then pay taxes on THEIR wages, put that money earned back into the economy of the USA (not send it out of the country) and not be so dependent on the welfare funded by those taxes they pay. Even if they do qualify for welfare, it wouldn't be as much because they would be getting a higher wage. Our welfare, therefore, would be used by "CITIZENS" not illegal immigrants who should never have been getting it to begin with.

Agriculture, Americans and the ECONOMY of the USA would ALL benefit if illegal immigrants were GONE!!

Exactly the same way Slavery helped/benefited agriculture. Cheap labor keeps the prices low. Both are wrong.

Wake up America, we are about to repeat the same mistake again. Making $100,000 in 1806, is like making $1mil in 2006. Making $7hr in 2006 must be very close to like, $0hr in 1806.

Slaves were forced here or born into it. Illegals Immigrants come by choice, their American kids are stuck in the middle.
History tells US the struggle of slavery and our War for freedom.
How the struggle of illegal immigrants and possible War for Freedom will play out, is yet to be determined.

It certainly gets them in the news when the illegals aren't taught not to sh *t in the fields and an e-coli outbreak occurs.

To all the people that say I am wrong....do you really think the media is going to tell us the truth? They never broadcast all the atrocities these uncivilized illegal aliens commit against Americans in their everyday life so why would they name them in a national scandal? Think about it.....

Doesn't benefit much now seeing as they're here illegally and probably purposely infected our spinach with ecoli. That's just the beginning. It's time to deport them.
