Actually there are four principle characteristics that identify the Holy Catholic Church as the true and only Church founded by Jesus Christ ...

UNITY - Christ said that his followers are all to be ONE, even as He and His heavenly Father are ONE. The Catholic Church demonstrates unity of teaching, unity of belief, and unity of worship, throughout the world and across twenty centuries - just as Christ described it.

HOLY - The Catholic Church is holy because it was founded by God Himself, and possesses the fullness of truth, received directly from Him. Obviously this doesn't mean that every member of the Church is personally holy. Individual holiness is a measure of the extent to which a person makes use of the holiness God has provided within His Church. The greatest saints of history - Francis, Benedict, Terese, and so many others are examples of those who are the product of living Catholicism to the fullest.

UNIVERSAL - Christ said that ONE Church was to make disciples of ALL peoples. He never authorized the founding of any other churches in His name, in fact He warned against it. The doctrinal chaos of manmade denominations attests to the ungodliness of such a tradition. The Catholic Church is present in every nation on earth, bringing people to Christ for 2,000 years, just as Christ said it should.

APOSTOLIC - The Church Christ founded for all mankind was founded upon the Apostles. Therefore no church can claim to be Christ's Church unless it can demonstrate a clear and unbroken history from the present day, back to apostolic times. The Catholic Church alone has such a history.

To briefly correct the errors of the first poster above ...

1. ALL Christians are intercessors. The Bible makes it clear that we are to pray for one another. That's what intercession means. If you read the Bible you would know this.

2. There is no such thing as a dead saint. Christ said that those who follow Him will NEVER DIE. If you read the Bible you would know this.

3. Common sense, as well as the teaching of God's Church from Apostolic times, tells us that among those who are saved, some are more ready to present themselves before God than others. This is why the Christian Church has always taught that a period of purification may be necessary fort some of the saved before they enter heaven. The Bible says nothing unclean can come into God's presence. The Bible says that those who die in God's friendship, but not completely pure spiritually may still be saved, but "only as by passing through fire". If you read the Bible you would know this.

The Eucharist given at Mass. The Catholic Christian Church is bulit upon this. It is the very Foundation of the Catholic Christian Church.
Transubstantion = The Holy Spirit of God changing the bread and wine at Mass into the very body and blood of Jesus Christ. This sacrament is based from John chapter 6 in the Bible. The observance of the other 6 sacraments also, being an important part of the Catholic Christian Faith.

Trust and obiedience to The Catholic Christian Bible, and listening to the words of the Pope, as well as prayer. Especially praying for the Peace of Jerusalem(all Christians, whether catholic or not, are suppose to do this daily, according to the Bible)!!

The Belief in the Trinity: "For there are three that bear record in heaven, 'The Father, The Word, and The Holy Spirit: and these three are
one(1520, Strongs Exhaustive Concordence in Hebrew and Greek of the Bible, = greek, hice =
oneanother) and these three are "one another".
Quoted from 1 John 5:7 Also John 1:1,2, & 14 states "In the beginning was 'The Word', and 'The Word' was with God, and 'The Word' was God. And all things were made by Him('The Word'). And 'The Word' became flesh, and dwelt amoung mankind, and mankind beheld His ('The Word's) Glory.
The name given to "The Word" that became flesh was Jesus, and Jesus means Immanuel = "God with us".

This Most Perfectly describes the characteristics of Catholic(catholic simply universal) Christianity.

Hope this gives you a very good understanding of the Catholic Christian Church !!

1. Love of God above all others, with saints and the Virgin Mary acting as intercessors (like a big happy family)

2. Belief that the eucharist is the body and blood of Christ, not just a symbol

3. Belief in the Trinity, of one God in three persons.

1. Making Mary intercessor with Christ instead of accepting that Jesus Christ is intercessor with God.

2. Praying to dead saints.

3. Believing in Purgatory in opposition to what the Bible really says.

These things are not said as an affront to Catholics but as stark truth of the errors of the RCC.

God bless the Catholics,

TD
