this came straight off a navy enlistment site....
Single Parent Restrictions
If you are a single parent, you cannot enlist in the Navy. If you have joint custody of a child by court order, and you do not have a spouse (who is not considered a spouse for enlistment standards), you are considered a single parent. In the event your former spouse takes full custody of your child/children, you can qualify for enlistment.
Dependents
The Navy will normally not allow you to enlist if you have more than two dependents under the age of 18. Who is considered your dependent? Read the information below. If you have questions, contact a recruiter.
A spouse (who is not considered a spouse for enlistment standards), to include a common-law spouse if the state recognizes such, or
Any natural child, or one adopted, if the child is under 18 years of age and unmarried, regardless of whether or not you have custody of the child. (If you are an unmarried male living with your child, you are considered to have custody of the child.) The term natural child includes any child you claim as yours, or whose birth certificate your name is listed on as the parent, or who a court order establishes your paternity or if any person makes an allegation of paternity toward you that has not been finally adjudicated by a court; or
A stepchild under the age of 18 who resides with you; or
Any parent or other person(s) who is/are, in fact, dependent on you for more than one-half of their support, as determined by the Navy.

You are a convicted felon and you really want to 1) turn your life around; 2) get out of VA; and 3) make your father proud, by joining the Navy. First off, none of the military services are accepting convicted felons as recruits because there are many well-qualified candidates fighting for the same slots. Second, even if a judge writes a letter, don't expect a miracle; you are still a convicted felon competing against many other better qualified candidates. Third, you seem to think you might have a better chance of enlisting in the Navy if you LIE ABOUT PREVIOUS DRUG USE? Are you kidding me? I am sorry that you made personal choices that put you in your present state, but the military is not a rehabilitation program. I honestly think that you will not have any luck with your plan of joining the Navy.

Sure, you can.
BUT- You must send them somewhere. Like your mothers or someone to keep them while you are at bootcamp and going through school. And it may have to stay that way if your first assignment is sea duty. As you will have to remain on the ship even in port. Until, you reach the rank of E4. Then you can move off. There are exceptions, like if you are married, etc. but it will still be a long road to be able to live off the ship or base for that matter.

I wouldn't see why not :0) When my husband joined the AF 3 years ago we had a child and it wasn't a problem, although if we had 2 children he couldn't have joined. Some branches have limits as to how many children you can have when you join. Ask a recruiter for better information.

Sure ask Maury Povich! You can be a baby daddy and be in the Navy - unless you are "in the Navy" like the Village People and are gay then it doesn't apply!

im a miltary brat and if you have kids thats fine , but if your not married then you have to give temp custdy to someone while you join and go to basic, after you get settled w/miltary then you can get custdy back. but if your married then your wife takes full care. i was going to join an i had 2 kids and i was going to give custdy to my mom so i could join , and once you join then theres nothing they can do as long as it shows someone has full/temp custdy of your child, but navy might have different rules, but air force and army thats the way

as a single parent, you may not enlist, period. married, you may have up to three dependants: spouse and 2 minor children.
any more than that requires a waiver, and may or may not be approved.
