Ten years ago when I lost my job and was in a bad relationship in a foreign country, for at least weeks on end I wouldn't go out the door. Scared me shitless. Never actually sat in the closet though, if thats what you are asking?

I'm always claustrophobic when in the closet.

Yes you could. Claustrophobia is the fear of being closed in. A closet would definitely close the space around you if you were inside it.
