My hair is currently dyed "Blackest Black" but has faded quite a lot and has a lot of roots!

I want to bleach the back of my hair blonde.

I have tried in the past and my roots go bright blonde and my ends go ginger!

How can I get an even bright blonde color?

Ive heard that washing with a strong anti-dandruff shampoo helps to strip the dye from your hair, is this true?

Can someone please guide me through bleaching my hair effectively or should I not bother?

Please help!

xx

I've done the whole Tweetie-Pie look before, and it's really not worth it. If you want the back blonde, why not consider extentions -there are some really good ones now that clip in (with a row of poppers at the back of the crown), so are not even permanent, therefor easier to care for (the shampoos and conditioners for extentions cost a lot, and permanent extentions can pull on and damage the hair, even causing traction alopeicia in extreme cases). I'd recommend buying the clip-ins at a hairdresser, cos they will be able to show you how to put them in effectively.

Us girls love to be extreme in our tranformations, don't we?

Your other option is to use chamomile shampoo for a few months, as you grow the black dye out, and an old fashioned "reducing shampoo" mix on the ends. This is 1/3 hydrogen peroxide (5%) mixed with a PH neutral and unperfumed shampoo. I've had some OK results using this on shortish hair, but any bleach damages your hair. This will not produce dramatic results, and you are definately best to get it trimmed before you try anything! You're likely to have colour build-up on the ends, whether you've dyed it black once or many times. Your actual colour result will depend a lot on how long your hair is, and how kind you are to it. I've done some evil things to my hair in the past, but then I don't mind having it very short if need be!

The clip-in extentions are probably the only quick and reliable way to achieve the result you want!

If you bleach your black hair and then go red, you will certainly sustain some damage, but just doing a few streaks will help lessen the overall damage. It doesn't matter if the blonde goes orange because you're dying it red anyway. You should try 'Fudge' if you can get it because you don't have to bleach first. It gives a really vibrant red colour. You should be able to get it at a good chemist (drugstore). Also when you dye it black again your highlights will fade through the black after a few weeks. You will need to keep up the black dyes until your hair grows out. I've done it a few times. Have fun mixing it up!

I used to have my hair dyed blackest black. When I wanted it back to it's natural colour, I was advised the best thing was to grow it out. This is what I did and it took about 2 years of having to endure a "tide-line" effect until it was long enough to get the colour cut out.

The only way to do it chemically is to "strip" your hair using very strong peroxide. It should only be done at a hairdresser, don't try it yourself. I was advised it would take all day to get it done and the hairdresser couldn't guarantee what condition my hair would be in at the end of the process. Therefore I decided to grow the colour out instead.

You should never use black dye if you might at any time want to go a lighter colour. It is almost impossible to get enough of the colour out to allow you to go from black to blonde.

I suggest you seek help from a professional. Anything you try at home will probably end up damaging your hair so much that you will need to cut the damaged hair off. And not too many women want to live with 1" long hair.

your gonna have to either grow it out or get it done PROFESSIONALY where it will be stripped and it really does damage your hair. Dont go straight to blonde, go brown because it will flatten the cutticles after it being bleached, then condition it loads and after a while start getting high lites. This is what i done when i wanted to do the same but I never went the full way because i started to look too pale but that should work for you!

I had the same problem - my hair was dyed black and i tried to dye it a light shade of brown - the colour only took to my roots so i would advise going to a professional and explain exactly what you want!

p.s anti dandruff shampoos do not strip colour - i have dyed hair now and i also use anti dandruff shampoo and my colour is still the same!!!!

you should probably go to a hairdresser.... if i tried something like that with my hair i'd be sitting at home with a hat on now... that happened to my friend before too and she had to get the colour stripped from her hair before a new colour was put in! i'm sure it'll turn out lovely anyway!!

you need to strip your hair of all colour, you can get this formula from hairdressers outlets like salon services, and ask for a WASH Formula. once you have done this you can then re dye your hair and then you will have no discolouration. providing you choose the right colour. dying jet black hair can commonly go purple after a few washes. be care-full.
