This question is exactly why I don't like Bible quotes very much. We are all judge mental, it is a human condition, that can not be changed. we are born that way. Most people begin 90 percent of their sentences with "I". I this and I that. And what is most amusing are the justifiers. That is, like a person on crack makes the argument that it is not their fault or that being on crack is simply part of the human condition. Which is why drugs are so bad. If one does drugs one wants others to do drugs so that, that is justified. Make sense? You bet. Same as if a person gets divorced, they automatically identify with others that are divorced and that way it is OK. Most people believe that they are right all the time and any conversation means that they must tell about themselves and how they are better then others. This is absolutely true, yet few will ever admit it. But just listen when people talk. Judge not, lest ye be judged is not something that fits the human condition. All people judge other people all the time, simple fact.

The only people I see being judged and persecuted on this site are Christians read all the questions posted here, and see for your self how many of them are belittling, and judge mental of Christianity, I don't think it's as much as being judgmental with the answers as much as it is being defensive. We know the truth as we view it according to the word of God you know the truth according to yourselves and your beliefs if everyone here would keep it real maybe more real questions would be asked in a respectful way and the answers would be the same. If all you see is questions like Do Christians pee like we do? Are Christians real? Is Jesus Gay? I mean come on it doesn't take a rocket scientist, an Atheist, a Christian, And The Pope to figure out eventually someone will be offended and lash out. When it comes to God and someones chosen religion it is serious and it's nothing humerus about it, if you want humor go to the comedy section of this site.... God Bless You And Have A Good Day.

Tell me, how can we not judge? It's human nature. Can you not judge if you come on here and see people spewing hate towards your religion? Even a nice question is flooded with hate. We do enjoy life, but asking questions like, "Was Jesus a homo" isn't funny! And who stands up for us? NO one. If we fight back, it's "Well, see, Christians have no sense of humor" or "Christians don't follow their God."

"Judge not lest you be judged. You therefore have no right to judge me when it comes to my sins!"
The world often takes this verse out of context and uses it to accuse Christians of being "judgmental" when they speak of sin. In the context of the verse Jesus is telling His disciples not to judge one another, something the Bible condemns (Romans 14:10; James 4:11). In Luke 6:41,42 He speaks of seeing a speck in a brother’s eye. In John 7:24 He said, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." If someone steals, lies, commits adultery or murder, etc., the Christian can make a (righteous) moral judgment and say that the actions were morally wrong, and that these sins will have eternal consequences. Chuck Colson said, "True tolerance is not a total lack of judgment. It’s knowing what should be tolerated—and refusing to tolerate that which shouldn’t."

Christians are to proclaim what the Bible calls sin. We are permitted to judge what is right and wrong based on the word of God.
Christians are to tell fellow Christians (as well as non-believers) as to what the Bible says.
For a non-believer Christians are to warn them of their need for a Savior, and to tell them of the coming judgment.
After warning a Christian we are not to judge wither that sin will keep them out of Heaven or not (for that is between them and God. For we do not know their hearts as far as if they are repenting of this sin, but have not gotten the victory over it).

Derek B - right on, it is true that most people take this verse out of context. We all know what is right and wrong and should thus stand up for it when we see in justice. So yes it is in a Christians place to judge the actions of someone. With that being said, there are many Christians who do go to far. Telling people they are going to hell or telling them you wish them to go to hell is wrong by any means. If you are truely a Christian and understand what hell is you wouldn't want that for anyone, even your worst enemy. Preaching hellfire and brimstone are wrong as well. The point of telling anyone about the reality of hell isn't to scare them but to lead into the mercy of God. This is what it's about, God's mercy not God's judgement, but there will be judgement for those who choose not to accept what He has given out of mercy.
Gary F - I am sorry, but everytime I read one of your posts I see someone who is bold about there ignorance. To say that there was an OT God tells me you think that God in the NT has changed, yet if you truely read and understood the bible you would know that God is unchanging. God showed just as much judgement in the NT (and its not over, ever read Revelation, will be the most judgement God has ever shown) as He did in the OT as well as showing just as much mercy in the OT as He did in the NT. Then you proceed to make the statement that Conservative Christians hate people including themselves because of their belief in the OT God. That right there seethes with your own hatred towards people. If what someone does is against my beliefs, do I have to condone it? If I don't condone it does that mean I automatically hate them then? I am not a big fan of homosexuality and yet one of my best friends is homosexual. But by your definition because I do not condone his sexuality I automatically hate him. Riiigghhhhtttt.
John B - I gave you a thumbs down, not because you are not Christian, but because your post has no bearing or productive purpose to this discussion. For some reason you felt it neccessary to come on here and proclaim your non-Christian stance then dare people to give you a thumbs down for it.
I think everyone who comes to this discussion should give him a thumbs down, for the sole purpose of dispelling his claim that he will get them for not being Christian but for truely making a useless comment to the discussion.

The bible also says that by their fruit we will know them. To be a christian you have to walk the walk, you cant just be all talk
Christian is a follower of Christ. Jesus Christ, who is God, became the one and only sacrifice for the salvation of mankind. - Jesus is God and there is one, not many paths that lead to God - Jn.3; Jn.14:5-6; Acts 2:21; Acts 4:12; Rom.10:10; Cols.1:20-22; Cols.2:13-15 After we die we go to our eternal reward of heaven or hell. - Salvation is not thru reincarnation or in living a pretty good life. - Whether we put our faith in Jesus while we lived on earth determines our eternal destiny. - No second chance after we die. No purgatory. When we die our destiny is sealed for ever. - Matt.3:12; Matt.25:41; Heb.9:27; Rev.20; Rev.21:27
According to Matthew 7, there will be those who stand before God and call themselves Christian but God will say "depart from me I never knew you". They were not building their lives on a Christian foundation or worldview. They were only Christian in name.
I can not pick and choose which parts of the Bible I will obey if I want to be a follower of Jesus!
A new generation of Christians are buying into the lie that you can be a Christian and pick and choose your values based on your own preferences instead of the absolutes of scripture.
Biblical absolutes, logic and reason are out of style and tolerance, choice and preferences are in.
This shift of worldviews has a great impact on our lives and church.
At one time the word "intolerance" was used for things such as racism but today it is being used against anyone who questions another person's values or belief system.
In the new worldview everything is relative. There is no right and wrong beliefs. There is no objective set of absolutes other then what the individual of community chooses.
The new measure of morality is "If it doesn't hurt anyone it is ok"
Of course this is all based on a lie. All sin hurts not only the individual but those around them and the very fabric of a society.
Anyone who claims to have absolutes is viewed as the new radical fundamentalists of society.
The scriptures, not the preferences of man are the basis for truth and so we have both authority and responsibility to speak and share our faith.
Ezek 3:18 When I say to a wicked man, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.
The universal truth for all cultures and peoples is written in the Bible:
John 14:5-6 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
What have you decided about Jesus?
Have you embraced not only Jesus but his teachings? Are you living a biblical worldview?
Are you walking in obedience to the absolutes of His word as the authority in your life for the decisions you make?
If not, according to the Bible, you really don't love Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:15: "If you love me you will obey what I command". In other words if you love Jesus you will live by a Biblical worldview.

You are correct. Christians arent to judge the sinners. But, we are told to judge the sin. God is very clear on what is sin and what is not, and He tells us to tell what is sin, and be bold about it, tho done in love. When a true Christian tells you this, its not because they judge YOU personally or condemn you. They tell you because they love you and dont want you lost. And they know God will judge you and that one is so real. So, we try to tell you what is sin, because God tells us to. Not because we are mad at you, or judge you. But, becasue we love you, as God loves us all. and is so eager to forgive. Just ask. and no, a true Christian hasnt lost their sense of humor. we are free to laugh and enjoy life, but in its purity, not of the world in all its filth and perversion. I get kidded a lot because of my wonderful sense of humor. I can see humor in things most ppl cant. But, I will always speak truth to all, as God directs me to do. and if that makes someone mad, thats their choice. When someone told me about God, I wanted to know more. So, its on how you look at it, on how you will receive it. and remember we arent judging the person, just the sin. God says to love the sinner and hate the sin. Happy? I am incredibly happy, but I do get serious when I see someone that wont let God in, because I know of eternal punishment. and I dont want that for anyone. Nor does God. Remember God does not send anyone to hell. When someone rejects God, they reject heaven, and hell is the only other option. But, we all have an opportunity to learn and to know this truth. We cant plead ignorance if we dont try to learn, and reject and get mad every time a Christian tries to speak truth to us. Maybe next time instead of making judgements on the Christtians, you can remain silent and only ask to learn more and get a Bible and study for yourself. Its all there, and its only our own fault if we dont study this and find out for ourselves. Why is it that most uon believers feel the need to attack us, and judge us. and call us named/? WE only attack what we fear. My question is what are you all afraid of? I believe on some level everyone knows, and just rejects it because it doesnt fit how TheY want to live. And therefore fear of hell is somewhere down deep the whole time they are arguing against God. I pray that God will become real to all who dont believe, so they can accept Jesus before its too late. Jesus is coming soon whether you believe it or not. Time to deceide.... decide carefully. and dont regret your choice.

You and others misuse this passage. Jesus was speaking of Judging a persons worthiness.
I do not believe the "funny" questions most often are funny. They are provocative, and meant to ridicule and insult.

Why give credibility to the bible? If you don't believe in it and don't agree with it, then perhaps it shouldn't be such a big part of your life.
Let it go and do something better with your time than arguing with Christians. They're just a lost cause.
