A great friend is getting married soon and I'd like to get something tradition for her engagement and wedding presents. Any ideas? Only suggestion I've found is that money is appropriate wedding present.

In most Asian cultures you give money in a red (for good luck) envelop. The amount has to be in an odd number, like $33.00 of $53.00 because even numbers can be divided.
Try a gift card in the red envelope. (Old tradition with a modern touch)

Ask the couple if they have a gift registry at a department store. Check it out and get them something they want.

I have been to a number of my close friends' wedding parties, and we only have some money which we put in an envelop as presents. That is what we generally do today. I know some others can bring to such a party some presents, but they are for everyday use, not something "traditional" as far as I know.

Family members usually give their sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, etc a gold ring or necklace.

A toaster would be perfect. I'm assuming that Vietnamese Buddhists eat toast, of course.
